(skip the bottom if you don't want the whole story)
Ok so, this is the forum I came to about my laptop for two years. Lots of motherboard replacements, screen replacements and what have you. I kept having the GPU fail with the symptoms being no video would display. My last motherboard replacement in June of 09 right before my warranty expired was another refurbished m1530 motherboard. He forgot to connect the wire for the fan and I called him as I had his cell from when he called to confirm the address. I asked him if temps of 105c were ok for the 8600m GT he said to shut if off immediately. He came back and hooked up the fan. Three months later I have no video again.
My laptop just sits, I know the prices for motherboard because of the GPU not being removable. Yesterday I'm desperate to fix this laptop as I want to play WoW again. What I see really pisses me off.
Nvidia Class Action Lawsuit, Warranty Extensions and laptops being fixed. I was in no way told that I received another year of Warranty. It lasted until 9/2010. I call Dell Support and I'm already equipped to deal with this from the backordering to part swapping to three people telling me five different things and none of it being true.
I finally got to Robert, we bicker and go back and forth and I get to point where I tell him "Enough. Just type in your computer that (my name) is never buying Dell again and neither will my friends or family. He starts offering a discount perhaps in their Out of Warranty department. I told him the only thing that would make it right with me is a free motherboard replacement shipped out and I pay to have it replaced. Now he says he is willing to make an exemption for a Service Depot and that any Manufacturing Defects or failures would be corrected, but not owner inflicted damage (accidental coverage?)
For quick reading, an Escalation to "XPS Customer Resolution" has authorized and out of warranty Service Depot Exemption. He says hes shipping me a box to send it, to take the harddrive out and sent it with the charger. What should I expect, has anyone gone through with this? Do they still have m1530 parts? What if they say they cant fix it? Could they just steal my laptop?

Not one person saw this and had a similar experience? Phooey.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
It's just a standard depot service... they will most likely replace the motherboard and/or whatever else doesn't work. If they don't have the parts on hand, they will probably send you a newer XPS 15. They won't "steal" your laptop...

The stealing the laptop was a joke, I read a few forum posts where people claimed their laptop was stolen a given a refurbished laptop.
I just felt like I claimed a victory getting my laptop fixed, I still love the thing. The LED screen is still as nice or usually better then what I see in others laptops and plays wow nicely.
I do have a stripped screw which we'll say was caused by @Home service techs. I hope they don't screw me cause of it! Haha -
No, they'll just take out the components from your laptop and fill it with gelatin and laugh at your ignorance.
On a serious note, they'll just do as you asked and make sure the machine is working properly this time and send it back to you. -
The escalation guy who finally offered the Depot Service said only Manafactoring defaults would be fixed, which is why the screw thing worries me.
-
Once they get it, they should just fix it. I seriously doubt a screw will be an issue. The guy fixing it has no idea about warranty or anything, he will just fix it as he is told. You should be fine and a big congrats.

Thanks! I know its dated but when all ya play is WoW its still a awesome laptop. I'll have to upgrade sometime this year though, something will run FFXIV and Diablo 3.

It is just nice to hear a good customer service story with so many. If it works for you, that's all that matters.

Status: SAK
Call Type: CSC
This is on the Dispatch Email. Does anyone know what these mean? -
UU572 - Power Supply
F125F - Board
XR216 - Mechanical
M244D - Processor
They put in a motherboard with the gddr 8600m GT hopefully, new T8300 processor, new AC adapter (the old one worked? lol) and new heatsink and fan. So happy. :-D -
Wait, so you do NOT have accidental damage completecare then correct? I would be terribly dissatisfied if that's all they did with complete care.
-
What else could they of done? They replaced everything except the palmiest.
I have no warranty, nothing. I just told the guy I would never buy another XPS if they didn't fix it.
Necromancy!
