    I currently have the Studio XPS 1645. My uses for the machine are client visits, presentations, and occasionally gaming on the road. I probably only log 5 hours a week on the laptop 3 weeks a month and 30 or so in the other week (when I am not at home).

    I have read about the throttling issue and this is my last day to return. So knowing my usage pattern. Would you keep the quad core or change out for the 1647. Thanks in advance for your advice.

    Cheers,

    R

    your needs may change from here untill next year,I don't think you want to be kicking yourself knowing you could have switched it knowing there was a problem
    just my opinion

    Better to be safe than sorry.

    My opinion is most people do not need the quad core as it's overkill and I would prefer better battery life than the extra, non-used power.

    Its up to you though at the end of the day, I agree with both statements;
    If a fix comes out all will be fine and your going to have to a quad core gaming machine which will last longer than the Duel Cores systems, however if you keep hold of it and a fix is never released you are stuck with a laptop wich isnt as fast as the duel core you could have had.

    Both sides have there advantages, it just depends how big your b**ls are and if you want to hold out for the fix risking the return.

    P.S Have you had it over a yeat ??? Becasue I was told by a Dell rep (I have written confimation) that as long as its within your warrenty and you are experiencing the problem you can send it back for a refund.

    I have had it almost 3 weeks. I also hate to give up the blu-ray but I wish i knew would work properly.

    Does Throttlestop totally fix the problem when gaming once enabled? If so, I may just roll the dice. I bought a 130 power supply after reading this forum.

    I mean - I literally ordered this machine in October....and they didn't deliver until January. So while I want peace of mind - I shudder about Dell's queue of doom.

    Any other advice I would love to hear. Thanks everyone!

    This isn't necessary true when comparing 620m to 720qm. Notebookcheck rate 620m above 720qm in benchmark list.

    I dont know best person to ask would be Unclewebb on the Throttle Stop forum. But I 'THINK' it cures most of it. doesnt run completly as it should but it does a very good job and gives you time to wait for DELLs. You should have no problem playing games like MWF2 with throttle stop.

    Ye DELLs queue is awful I hate waiting on my laptop and getting jerked arounf with pre-production then production like one week later :D

    I mean if you still have your warrenty I see no reason why you cant hold on for it for another month and send it back if theres no sign of the fix. I have written consent from a DELL rep telling me I can ship it back if I experience the problem and are within warrenty. I would be happy to send it to you.
