So my brother xps 1530 stopped working a couple months ago and we just got around to taking it to a local computer repair shop. They took a look at it and determined that he needed a new mother board. he was quoted $400.

question is if anyone knows of a good place to send it in to?
and has anyone else have had to do this and how much they charged you.

    any help would be appreciated.

Might be time to just eBay the parts and be done with it. :-( Basically, I just get a warranty long enough to cover my investment in the laptop, and if a mainboard or something I need in it dies with no replacement, then I just part it out for other things. Desktops are obviously a lot easier to recycle, but you might find someone that wants it for the keyboard and screen, along with a CPU upgrade and the RAM. If the drive is good, you might want to keep it and get an enclosure (unless it's too small/slow to be useful for the cost of the case). Take the money you make, and the money you save from not repairing it, and get something new with a nice warranty. :)

jeez mbs are a pain sometimes, and in laptops especialy. Sorry to hear it went out, id let it sit for a bit since your not going to be causing any comotion with a broken down 1530. If you find a disasembly guide for replacing something like whats happened to it, you might find a reasonable person to work with on replacing the part some where.
