    Hi
a few weeks ago i just had bought my inspiron 1520 and I'm generally quite happy with it except of course the dreaded headphone jack and some other minor issues. However as i recently visited notebookreview i saw a thread on the
xps m1530 i looked at it at dell and i really like the design. Now my retrun policy period is almost over and I'm in a dilemma; buy the lighter, sleeker and better designed xps and face restocking fees and shipping hassles or stay with my current system? I checked out the web site and the xps cost almost exactly the same for the same configuration! Any opinons would be greatly appreciated. Also
is the xps really the much smaller/lighter?

    Thanks for any help

These can be configured identically except the screen resolution. It will be a month or two before the XPS is even attractive for me to buy. Keep your Inspiron IMO.

They're both good. That's a hard one for me. But I'd say that if you feel you'd rather have the XPS, than go ahead and pay the restocking fees for your 1520 and get the XPS. But if you're happy with the 1520, keep it.

In canada its looking like a steal. The same configed 1520(T7500, 8600GT, 1 gig of ram, 120gig hard drive WXGA screen, bluetooth, etc...) is actually MORE then the M1530. Prob. has something to do with them adjusting the XPS price for the canadian dollar, and not doing the same for the 1520.

As for the OP, i would stick with the 1520.. You'll essentially be getting the same machine, except with a worse screen, and a nicer case... seem like even trade-offs until you factor in the head-ache of returning, and buying the new one... and thats not even looking at the price difference(which, with the re-stocking fee's, gotta be close to $300)

You all keep mentioning resolution resolution resolution but he didn't even mention if he has WXGA in his 1520 in the first place! :D

Anyway, if you're really dissatisfied with the 1520 and can't stand the headphone jack, go with the XPS. However, if you're already contented with the Inspiron and you really don't mind the issues too much, stick to it.

Sorry can't be of much help, I really think this is a matter of personal choice because the 1520 and 1530 should pretty much be the same [unless the XPS happens to have even more issues than the 1520 *gasp* lol I really want an XPS M1530 review now!!]

I guess i'll just stay with my 1520, $300 is just not worth a thiner and better designed laptop

What's with all of this "microcon" and "minitext", uber high res pushing BS lately? It is most defiantly not for every one.
