Well, my computer isXPS M1530 with GeForce 8600m gt. When I play a game named Gunz, which is supposed to not be a graphic-intensive game, my pc will simply go black after a certain time(vary between 10 min - hours). Then, the sound of pc just stop.
I thought this is a overheating problem, but after viewing some threads about overheating, it seems like that overheat only lead to a shut down or a restart. Since my computer simply go black and turn off, I don't know if my pc is overheating. Can someone tell me if Im overheating? If not, what's causing these crashes?
Btw, my GPU and ACPI temp were around 83C five min before my computer crashes.
Edit: Forgot to mention that
-my 2 cores were at ~77C (I have undervolted my pc)
-Im using HWmonitor to take temps
-
have you tried running GUNZ on another PC?
either that game is not compatible with the OS or you need to update your graphic drivers. -
Eh I have only 1 pc, and my OS is window Vista home premium...
Edit: All graphic driver is updated too. -
Have you cleaned out the laptop for dust recently? Use a can of compressed air and a good vacuum cleaner.
-
I just cleaned the fan 2 days ago. ;_;
Btw, can anyone tell me if this is an overheat problem or not? -
Your CPU temp is rather high (77C), but the GPU temp is normal; maximum temperatures for the 8600 should be 95C or so, and your GPU is well within that range. Even my Radeon 3450 touches 83C when gaming, so I am not sure what the problem is, unless the GPU itself is failing.

When you overheat, does it shut down same way than when you click on the shut down button? Mine just goes black and turn off..
-
I don't have problems with overheating... thankfully, the 1535 has a very effective cooling system. Given your temps, there is no question that you are not overheating. The question is whether your GPU is starting to fail when under high thermal stress; this is definitely possible, given that Nvidia has recently admitted to many of it's models (particularly all 8600s) being manufacturered with incorrect materials.
Is your machine under warranty? -
So, my GPU might be a bad one and that's causing me the crashes ;o
I don't know if it is under warranty as Im not the one who bought it. (my parents did) -
If it's less than a year old, then it should still be covered by the manufacturer's one year standard warranty. I would call up Dell's technical support to see if they'll ship you a box (assuming you ordered it online). If you purchased it at a retail store, they may ship it in to repair for you.

Huh I have the impression that it crashes once my GPU hits 85C, is that normal?

Need help about crashes...Am I overheating?
