My laptop was knocked off a table and the plastic around the power jack snapped off. The laptop was still functional, but the jack was basically hanging by the wires. Eventually, the inevitable happened... the adapter was inadvertently tugged and the wires stripped out of the soldiering. I am poor at soldiering, so I bought a replacement jack with the wires attached.

This first replacement part was shoddy, did not work, and didn't fit well or look the same. Seemed like it was for a smaller laptop (inspiron). After installing it, I plugged in the power cable and the thing sparked. Threw that out and bought a new one.

The new one fit perfectly, and looks like it should - as seen in this picture - [IMG] However, it's not working and I am trying to figure out why. When I plug in the power cable, the lights that indicate that power is being delivered do not turn on. The DC jack is firmly inserted into the motherboard. There are no visible breaks in the wire and the soldiering on the jack look solid.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Tiborg,

I appreciate your efforts to replace DC jack on the laptop and for the detailed description. The sparking that occured when the first part was used, could have damaged other components on the motherboard and suggest you to replace the motherboard.

Please let me know if you need further information.
