decided to update my moms XPS 170M (yes its my old laptop)

anyways, much to my surprise, I cannot find a reliable nic driver for win 7.

all of those I have found, non seem to work which leads me to believe I have the wrong ones.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

    thanks

What have you tried using so far? Have you tried just using the Dell XP drivers (or Vista drivers, but I doubt they have those). I've had XP drivers work in 7 quite a few times for older machines.

    thanks for the reply

ok I went back and DL the xp drivers and ran in compatibility mode.

However, when trying to connect to the internet, I get this error: local area network doesn't have a valid ip configuration

oddly, when I click on network, I can see my directv networked receivers are sharing is turned on. So why in the bloody blue blazes cant I connect to the internet !!!!
