I was advised to hold out for the next round of XPS, which I think is due out in aug/september. So I would say wait.

Try to settle it with DELL and get the HDD changed. If they can't do so, then just cancel and reorder. I don't know when will DELL actually release Centrino 2. If you can wait, it's good to wait. If you need it urgent, your current config is really good already.

Remember the price may go up when the new centrino 2 version of the XPS is released....so that means you may not be able to get the spec you want for that price.

I tried ordering it from dell and it ended up being cheaper if I just buy the hdd separately. I can wait a little while, but I cant really wait much past the end of august. And I dont really mind going up in price a little if I can get a better gpu.

No one can be sure of it. However, since other companies are offering the 9 series, DELL wouldn't be dumb enough to not offer them too, as this will result in loss of customers.

Hey, take a look at all the companies that have released their Montevina refreshes already. Remember all the people said how Dell would be dumb to let other companies to announce and sell before them? Well, its happening right now so.... anything can happen.

Though what you could do is order the 320GB 7200RPM separately and then use your 250GB 5400RPM as a backup hard drive.

If you can, I highly recommend calling them up to change your order and when they ask you for coupon code, just say you forgot it, but its 25% discount. The rep I was on the phone with when I changed from WUXGA to WXGA+ for the sake of the LED screen said ok, he couldnt find the offer (even though it was still active at the time) but he said he can manually apply the discount and so he did.

Try that first. If you wait for Montevina to unleash... your looking at $2200+

When do you start school? If you start in August, I doubt you'll be able to get an XPS with Montevina by then. These systems most likely won't start being shipping until August or September.

It's a safe bet that a cooler running & slightly more powerful Nvidia 9600M GT will be inside the next XPS M15xx and/or M16xx.

i think they could pull something off this week, or the next, but after that, then they are just being "silly" and waiting till sept.

BigHerky, I think you payed more than you should have since you're a student. I got the same exact configuration using my higher education discount as you posted except I got the 2.4 ghz, Midnight blue color, and integrated sound blaster audigy. Also, I got the better deal after calling them rather than buying online.

My total after taxes and all that was $1,332.13. Make sure you use the higher education discount as it will bring down the price a lot. Hope this helps.

I'd have to agree, the price you got there is kinda high.

Problem is the 25% off coupon expired. If you had the 25% off coupon, you could have easily gotten that configuration for around 1,300.

I had originally thought you had used the 25% off coupon, but looking at your configuration... you obviously didn't. The problem with all other deals besides the non-25% off is that despite what appears to be big discounts. They basically make the bulk of your money pay for extraneous features you dont need like ridiculously huge warranty, lojack. By the time your warranty expires, you will probably already have gone through two other laptops provided you are a sucker for the new. At least one is most probable.

Then again, since the 25% off coupon expired.. its not like Montevina will be cheaper than what you've got there.

I tried to get it down cheaper, but that seemed to be the best I could get with the 9 cell battery, extra charger, t9300, and 4 year warranty with lojack and adp.

if you get limit with your budget, get it now while it's still cheap. when the next xps generation come out, it will be more expensive and trust me, a lot of ppl say that Montelavia is not a big upgrade, you still can live happily ever after with santa rosa though
