Get some sort of boot disk. Perhaps some sort of Linux distr? Delete your partition and format. Put in the Windows disk, start to install, make a partition, and you should be good to go.

yes, you can format w/ the vista ultimate disk, which you can use as your boot disk. one of the options is to format the existing vista partition--do that. then install ultimate on that partition.

clean install-- use the ult dvd, boot from it, format the previous vista partition/hdd and clean install ultimate w/ out the bloat

'check out les's infamous thread here on that subject:

Maybe you have some defective hardware?

I never had to install Vista yet, as I just got my first Vista system a month ago. Durring the install, does it give you the option to install drivers? I did some Googling, and it seems people have this issue when they don't install the proper drivers.

Can you install the version of Vista that came with the system?

There is a slim chance of the MBR being corrupt. Delete all partitions on the hard disk, and create a new partition. Then try installing the OS.
