Please do not close this thread. There is not another thead specifically related to this topic as was suggested earlier today. I am looking for information on the new Dell Studio XPS 1640. There are only a few NBR members with any information that is better than just rumours or wishes. Please comment when you have more information. As the moderators have said, let's all stick to the topic. Thanks!!!! :)

Well, if it keep silence until now, maybe it will coming out soon. If lots of information launch, maybe it will delay for few monthes.

Actully, we all hope it comes out this month, but who knows? You have to ask personater Dell.

I went whole hog and got the new fandangled display, and the 128G SSD. After waiting several weeks, it finally arrived yesterday.
The display has a fine blue line running through it from top to bottom. Looks like the display is broken, but no visible damage to the laptop or case.
First boot is ok, but uninstalling Google gets the dreaded blue screen.
Reboot wants to run the repair utility. Then the repair utility aborts saying it can't recover.
Reboot again, this time select 'normal start'. It starts up and I can surf the net.
Then I look at the C: drive through 'my computer', and it says total capacit 109g. I paid for a 128G solid state harddrive. It looks to me like this unit was returned by a prior customer, and or shipped from Dell with a damaged SSD.
Then the laptop crashes again, surfing the web.
    Reboot repair utility fails again.

Shipped it back to DELL today, after spending half an hour going through automated phone system and end up with a south american fellow with a barking dog in the background answering the phone.

    Never Dell again.

    Hallo SONY VAIO :)

I joined this site after reading this string of posts just so I could set the record straight...

About two weeks ago I ordered a Studio XPS 1640. I had a tough time deciding between the 1640 and a regular XPS because I had a 25% OFF coupon for the regular one. After several builds, I finally decided that even with no discount on the 1640 it still had better specs (and looked better) than the regular XPS so I ordered it. Here are the specs:

    Intel Core 2 Duo P8600
    4GB DDR3 Ram
    HD WLED LCD with camera
    320GB Hard Drive @ 7200rpm
    64-bit Windows Vista Ultimate
    8x +/- DVD RW
    High Def Audio 2.0
    Intel WiFi Link 5300
    56 WHr 6-cell battery
    2- year warranty
    370 Bluetooth
    Multicard reader
    512MB Video Card

I couldn't be happier. I previously had an Acer Travelmate 8100 and was happy until the fan gave out, I replaced it but couldn't rely on it anymore. The 1640 is faster than any laptop I have ever seen and runs VERY smooth. I'll admit when I started it up for the first time I got the blue screen of death but I had other plans for windows anyway- I replaced vista home with vista ultimate and it solved all my problems. The computer rates a 5.3 on the vista scale and would be a 5.9 with a faster processor.

If you are debating between a 1640 and something else, go with the 1640. It will blow away your expecations.

Congrats on your laptop. What can you say about the heat? Is the heat dissipation mechanism ok?

you need to enable hotkeys in winamp, and for itunes you need to install a driver. i pasted a link to it on here somewhere when someone asked this back in march maybe, use the search to find it.
