Man they seem pretty sweet albeit very expensive. I really would have liked 16GB of RAM but oh well. I couldn't really wait any longer to buy a new laptop so I'll live with my current generation XPS 13!

Same here (current XPS 13), general I´m not that happy about that memory is soldered on the board (yea formfactor based but...) so with the 8GB it performes good in Linux/Windows for the tasks i´ll threw at it (and i hope in future too).

some facts for the XPS13 refresh:
+ slightly larger battery (56Wh instead of 52Wh)
    + USB 3 type C / Thunderbolt ready 3 port
+ slightly larger touchpad (& refreshed)
    + Dell DA100 get a replacement (for TB3 - contains USB3 ports)
+ due to new CPUs and slightly larger battery longer lifetime possible
+ 16GB memory as an option

o no mini display port anymore (but TB3 instead)

    - little larger (depth 23.5cm instead of 20cm)
    - little larger weight (1.2kg / 1.29kg)
    - still 1 year warranty (in EU) is a joke

Only really mssing at the refresh is an PCIE 3.0x4 -SSD support, so still on m2 SATA is little weird, but maybe my information are not valid.

    Regards,
    aVa

Any chance they may have a model with a discrete graphics card? A 940m or 960m would be amazing in this laptop.

Due to the size and thinness , I don't think they can squeeze in any GPU .. :(

You have to click Next. There are actually 5 options, but it only shows 4 on the page at once. the 16GB option is unfortunately only available on the 3200x1800 touch screen model with i7 and 512GB/1TB.

Price is 1999.99 USD. It's too bad you can't just get an i5 with 256GB/16GB FHD. That would be ideal for me.

Me too, I looked at a mac setup like that (well retina but you know) but rejected it for the lack of familiarity with OSX

No chance whatsoever of a discrete GPU, due to size and power constraints. The smallest laptop that has a discrete GPU is going to be in the 13.3" to 14.1" size range. Even the discontinued Alienware M11x (11.6" screen) actually used a laptop body closer to what you'd find in a 13.3" laptop.

On the bright side, Intel integrated graphics have come a LONG way. I'm running a Dell XPS 13 (Broadwell) with your typical Intel HD Graphics 5500, and it's actually a decent performer. I was getting around 45-50 fps in League of Legends (medium settings), and about 30fps in Dragon Age Inquisition (low settings).

If you're into that, then the new Dell XPS 15 actually looks like an incredible option for you. 15" screen (in 14.1" laptop body), nVidia GeForce 960M discrete GPU. That GPU absolutely tears up gaming at 1080p resolutions.

Has the new dell xps come out yet? I've been hearing about it but haven't seen anything solid on it yet. Other option is a Microsoft surface book or a pro 4. Granted the pro 4 doesn't have graphics but it's smallish.

I held off getting a broadwell 13, as I had a feeling the refresh would bring a RAM increase. It's a shame they opted for the high tier only. I'm not convinced of the QHD on a small screen, nor is the i7 much of a boost over the i5. I'll likely spend an extra $400 and go with the similar spec 15 inch instead. Which seems to bring better value and can max out the RAM later myself. It's too bad there aren't more config options for the 13.

I'd have liked 16GB for the FHD. Dunno why they limit it to 8GB.

I took the 512Gb ssd version, a shame we can't customize à la clevo our dell.
They can't create 50 different versions straight from the factory : I mean everything is soldered except the pciE SSD....

Worst case, they'd have to offer it with the i7. They have QHD with 8GB i5/i7, so I doubt it would really be an issue.

BTW, does anyone know if anything has happened with the content aware brightness thing? Has it been made to be adjustable in this version?

I suspect if 16GB was offered on the FHD, it may have been the more popular choice. I certainly would have gone with the 13 FHD if they had. By offering only 8GB, it creates a need for the high spec models and will even out sales.

As for adaptive brightness; I haven't read mention of it on any of the preview articles that are out. Given not much was updated since the last generation, my guess is that it hasn't changed. I believe units don't start shipping until the end of the month so it's too early to know.

Does anyone know if the SD card slot allows for the card to be in all the way. It jutted out on the previous XPS 13. I was thinking it'd be useful to use that drive for movies and music.

Is this going to serve as the owners thread for the new XPS 13?

If so, can you please edit the title to something like.. "Dell XPS 13 2015/16 Skylake Owners Thread"

Can the display settings be configured to always use intel graphics ? My experience with discrete gpu has been pretty bad , i7 with discrete still looks a risky option even after all the intel and nvidia improvements for xps15 . i would have prefered a FHD , 16gb , i5 XPS 13 . Because of lack of 16gb and storage upgradibilty options on xps13 i am tending towards xps15 . One added advantage would be i wont be downgrading from my current storage which is 2.5" SSD+ 2.5" HDD. plugging portable storage every now and then looks pretty dumb if you are spending so much on a laptop

Purchased the new XPS 13 and took delivery on 4th November 2015.
Failed after two weeks as it would not boot.
Tech Support said a new Mother board was needed - but none were available.
They advised I apply for a return and refund.
Two weeks later and the machine was collected 2 days ago for return.

On the same day - I ordered and paid for an exact model replacement.
Today 5th Nov at 14.30 the new one was delivered to me.
Immediately opened the box and attempted the usual setup process.
Mouse and touch screen failed intermittently.
Called tech support 15.15 and went through loads over an hour and a half.
Got to the point for a complete re-install.
Did this 23 times and gave up with original fault at 21.00 that night.
Now have another completely useless doorstop.
I will call tech support again on Monday.
So far - spent £3,000 and only have one machine to show that is duff.
Wife is going ape **** £3 grand for nothing.

If the device is defective out of the box, just return the damn laptop for a refund. Not worth the hassle dealing with Dell.

To be fair - Dell offered a refund or replacement.
I opted for a replacement - I have a couple of hundred pounds worth of accessories specific to this model.
I am just hoping third time lucky.
