Will it have any upgrade options apart from 640m .? 640m sucks .
-
-
i sure hope so, i wouldnt mind an amd/ati alternative too considering theyve improved their power consumption. The 7850M is just 32W and thats meant to offer close to 660M performance. The 540M was a 35W card, so its def realistic option.
-
-
15z has a 2gb 525M. Thats what my one has anyway and just checked their site and it looks like this is still the top card
-
-
ah, is the L521X a 15z or just 15?
As for the cards, i was refering to the current 15 on the Australian site, which offers the 540M. -
-
even if its the 640M rebranded GT 550/555 vs the kepler ones, I'll take it over a 540M
-
There is no rebranded 500 series cards under the 640M name. The 640, 650, and 660M are all Kepler parts, just with some shader modules disabled.
-
Actually there is. There's a GT 640M LE and apparently it's a Fermi rebranded chip apparently.
-
That's different. My point was simply that you're not going to have to worry when you see "GT 640M" on a spec sheet, if you're getting Fermi or Kepler.
-
640M sucks . Reportedly 30% slower than 650M which is a beast .
-
-
Wouldnt overclocking anything on the laptop void the warranty?
-
They are rubbish this year, XPS, Vostro, Latitude, Inspiron, Precision, are they planning to release 20 systems at the same time because all of them will need Ivy Bridge by the summer.
-
Hi, one thing I'd like to see in the new xps 15 l521x is a large (say 128-256gb) msata ssd and a drive bay for a large spinning hdd. I think that would make it practically perfect, of course depending on the build quality and screen! Has anybody heard any rumors like this? Thanks!
-
The new HP envy with new AMD A10 trinity APU looks very tempting , it kills i7 in running multiple programs at the same time and the igpu looks good to .
Shame that dell is " intel only " at this moment ,.... -

And just imagine how much IB i5 and i7 will beat trinity!! -
I just hope this notebook manages to keep itself safe from high temps & throttling. The reported temps on other Ivy + Kepler multimedia notebooks had me kind of frightened so far

I still don't understand why everyone is so concerned/gung-ho with the discrete GPU on the L521x. Get an AW if you want a gaming machine. At under one inch thick, the L521x will have a very difficult time staying cool even with an IB chip, particularly if you're OC'ing it. AW was built for GPUs like the 650, and if it's a matter of cost, AWs don't cost that much more. And if it's a matter of the R+GBLED, AW's screens aren't that much less in quality.
-
Hi The Muffin Man, I'm sort of glad to hear that. 64gb isn't really enough and the alienware m14x r2 offers that but you can only get the 64gb with a fairly small 500gb spinning drive. I need lots of storage. Thanks!

Sincerely I don't like AW, they're too flashy, I'm thinking in a XPS because they're elegant and powerful. I want to play some games (not the most new ones, I'm not a extreme gamer) but also use it for college work and some photoshop/illustrator things.
I know that a gaming machine will be hot so I also want to buy a cooler pad (I guess Cooler Master U3 maybe).
Speaking of Warranty, do I loose it if I want to change the OS or install another one (Like Ubuntu) with Windows? Also i'm thinking in buy it in november/december, what are the posibilities for buy it with windows 8? -
AW, apart from not being everyone's style, are also seriously overpriced in NZ.
$1910 USD for a basic m14x with a 650m, 750gb hdd and 6gb ram. -
Yeah AW design isnt everyones cup of tea, plus them being made for the 650M isnt exactly right, maybe on the 14 it is. but the rest of the series it for more powerful stuff like the 670 and up.
The rumors for the new 15 macbook are thinner chassis and a 650M. So heres to hoping Dell can match it, as it is possible. -

I still think many of you are getting your hopes up thinking a 650m in the new XPS 15 will be able to "keep its cool." With all the bios issues of the XPS 13, 15, 15z and their inability to run the fans properly -- and now the new XPS 15 being under 1" thick... Dell has its work cut out for it. Also, if rumors are true, the new MacBook won't have an optical drive, allowing for a larger battery and better/larger heat vents and dissipation. I will never buy Apple, but I'm not seeing a convincing argument for the L521x over the Inspiron 15 SE at this point.
-
Then again if rumors are true the next MBP is supposed to have the 650M

My only remaining curiosity is whether Dell will put out an B+RGLED screen @ 1080p with multi-touch when W8 comes out in October. Now that would be worth the price of admission. I have a sneaky suspicion that if they do, it will probably max out at 1366x768 or something around there. -
edit: to clarify, I certainly would like to see the high gamut screen and other features on the L521X as well, but it's not that surprising that Dell is focusing on the thin and light trend. -
I can't wait until Dell Bill comes back. Hopefully we can get some details in late May.
-
I think he's supposed to be back tomorrow, but I somehow doubt that there will be any developments to relay. Call me pessimistic.
-
I'm excited to see what happens to this thread when Dell actually releases the L521 and the rampant speculation ends
-
Same thing that happens to every speculation thread after there's nothing more to speculate. It dies, and an owners' lounge is started in its place.
-
-
I am quite sure that Dell will release something after new i5 chips will announce by Intel on 3rd June. So, Dell XPS will come after that.
I am quite sure that there will be no news before 3rd of June. -
Nevermind............
-
"The page you requested may no longer exist on Dell.com"
what was it supposed to be? other than a 15z. new or old? -
It was a link to the old (current) XPS 15z. Only thing of note there was a review from a guy who backed his car over one and it still was fine aside from a few small dents...
-
Well the Latitude has been leaked, should give an idea of where Dell is heading?
Dell Latitude 6430u: an Ultrabook tailored for suit-and-tie types -- Engadget -
My corporate E6400 is set to fully depreciate next spring. I would love to get that 6430u for my next box, but I have a feeling the standard config will not be the "u" model. Guess I have to get that executive title to get one.
No new XPS updates at this time. -
Hope the vacation was good, Bill.
That a Latitude looks very nice. Reminds me of the iPhone 4*. Hopefully the 9-cell battery option with the XPS 17 (assuming it doesn't ship with an 8-cell standard, which from history is unlikely) is a bit more streamlined this time round. As much as I like the capacity, it's a pain trying to fit into a laptop bag.
*No, I don't have one. No, I really like Apple hardware, but iOS and OSX are truly disgusting, so none for me. -

Notebook -
. i wonder what card will be in the heftier 15in laptop
