If thats the new xps, it kind looks like a downer imho, the keyboard looks weird too, just reminds one of the xps 15z.

Dude, watch my post........i completely agree with the "likelihood". It is extremely probable that L521x may come up with a PLS panel like XPS One 27!
Dell is not even marketing One 27 having PLS, instead they are highlighting 2560x1440 res! :)

How is it extremely probable that it will have a PLS display? It seems the most likely panel-type is TN (in which case, as has been reiterated ad nauseum, will disappoint some people in this thread). I'm interested to see what the XPS 15 shapes up to be. Beyond that, there isn't much more to be said on the issue of displays.

    Moving on...

That XPS 15 for sale; maybe it's a prototype? The keyboard doesn't look (to me at least) the same as that in prior leaked pictures. It also doesn't look the same as the XPS 14 in the CNET video. It does look a lot like the keyboard in the 15z, though, so maybe this was an early version of the design.

it says wled 2560x1440 WQHD res in Dell website about XPS one 27, but no word on the most interesting PLS panel! Like that, it may be possible that sources have got info only on wled 1080p , and PLS is still a hidden fact!

    what you say?

Whatever the XPS One 27 is equipped with, it won't foretell much of anything about what the XPS 15 has, as those two products have little in common in terms relevant to production. PLS seems highly unlikely; IPS slightly less unlikely. Most likely it's a TN and, unless we get some fairly substantial evidence suggesting the contrary, that's what you should expect it to be.

The keyboard is a belgian (?) one, not a traditional QWERTY keyboard. If you look at the top row, the front letters are AZERTY.

Yep it is from a belgian site I believe.

I'm interested in this, but I might just go for the Vaio S15... should be lighter too since it's not carrying a full aluminum body (Mac effect). I just need a more powerful GPU that this should have right?

Yeah, just like it’s using 16:10 screen. Too much depth like Alienware laptops

Also the keyboard position is at far back.

In contrast, Envy 15 keyboard is bigger and the chassis also more compact (smaller depth).

you might want to read this review : Review Samsung Series 9 900X4B-A01DE Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
and look at the screen measurements, a black value of 3.31 cd-m2 is one of the worst ever and as a result the contrast is a very low 111:1. I am 100 % sure the Dell xps 15 will have a 5 times better contrast than the series 9.

Sorry to detract from the thread, but I'm curious why everyone is going for the Envy 15. Frankly, I've had HP computers and I have not been impressed. The Sony Vaio S or Asus Zenbook seem much better options. I'm only curious what the draw is to the envy.

I think it is good if the topic of display quality is raised extremely often in this thread; this increases the likelihood that Dell will realize the importance of this topic for future products if it indeed does not ship with an IPS or PLS display. I think even the subpar Envy 15 displays with their red/orange issue might look better than most TN panels Dell used in the past.

cause the cpu options will be faster, the gpu is faster, some might say its "sexier" ( i like the design cause its like the macbook i was basically looking for a macbook designed pc with not an outrageous price tag so it fit my description) better speakers (6.1), better cooling, ips screen (yes color problem but its still a good screen comepared to alot of tohers)?

the xps has the advantage in its prolly gonna be cooler (cause less powerful components), others say this is "sexier" cause its not a mbp clone (the reason most companies are copying it is cause it is good looking :p), thinner, a while ago i would have said lighter (guess not),proper color producing screen (just not as intense), bill said it has good speakers (but no subwoofer)

both are competition but i think the people they are marketing are slightly different. the envy goes for powerful multimedia in a smaller form than other bigger notebooks, the xps goes more for powerful multimedia in a little bigger form than an ultrabook

The Vaio S is more expensive, and has a significantly weaker graphics card, as well as the same color issues in the screen.

The Zenbook is an ultrabook, not a full-fledged notebook like the Envy 15 or Vaio S 15.

And personally, I'm not that impressed with the build quality of Asus laptops, while the Envy's (at least the normal, non-sleekbook ones) have very good build quality, befitting their premium compared to the dv series.

In addition to this, like PaKii, I like the looks of the mbps. However, I can't stand Mac OS. Darn it, when I x out of a program, I want the program to close!

I also think the XPS looks quite good, but the decreased capability of Kepler based cards for CAD programs, as well as the later release date of the XPS kept me from waiting for it.

Hope this increase in dept make for a cooler hand rest, its about time manufacturers realize they cant put hot components under the palm rest, put the battery or the odd there, not the motherboard or the hard drive.

    Still hoping is the battery.

This kind of hype only find its way to the big sites when it's apple-related. For everyone else they usually wait until the official announcement. Not to mention that probably everyone in the press as already seen the new xps line, don't forget that cnet used one to compare against the inspiron 15.
My opinion is that dell presented the xps line together with the inspiron refresh, and forced the press to remain silent until the official release with one of those NDAs.

Ist it just me or that Dell All in One looks like a black version of a MAC?? Seriously Dell be more original and don' try to copy Apple products, if we want a mac we will buy mac but if we want Dell its because of its own "personallity" or character.

Now with the XPS15 pictures. About the Belgian pics I hope that those are fake, it looks awful, the keyboard is too small compared with the rest of the laptop and like someone said pages back looks like a keyboard from 10 years ago, those huge empty spaces around the touchpad/trackpad doesn't look nice, and where are the speakers and the inputs?

I'm guessing that's the crappy camera and flash making the one in my sig look so blue and out of whack. Everything else lines up. Even Bill said the original Tweakers photo didn't do justice to the actual look of the device. I have no doubt the photos on the Belgian site are the real deal, they're just not very good. Any pics out of Computex were taken in a room with ideal lighting and betters cameras. Night and day difference, but same device.

Hey, I'm not fronting for the Belgian dude. Although since I posted the pics last night, he's had a couple hundred hits so I should be expecting 10%. ;) Hopefully, tomorrow when Bill returns he'll be able to go to his PR department and say the cat's out of the bag, Apple's giving their keynote today, let's get some official specs and pics of the 15 out there. I still think we'll have to wait until next week but whatever.

I am very worried that there will be no ports on the back of the laptop like it does on the L502X and L702X. I hope the number of ports are not compromised since I love having 3-4 USB ports.

I don't think there can be ports on the back with the way the screen dips low when tilted open on both the 14 and 15. The previous image shows the ports on the 14 with a headphone and Kensington lock slot on the right side from another previous photo. The 15 adds an ODD, headphone and mike jack on the right side. I highly doubt there will be any ports in the rear.

Possibly. But since we've now seen the 14 on the left, right and front with all of its ports, and only the 15 on the right, we're running out of options on what it could be. Ethernet is still very necessary and IIRC Bill stated many, many pages ago that they weren't getting rid of it just yet.

The biggest problem I have is that the 15 only appears to have (2) USB ports on an as-yet unseen left side, because we know it doesn't have any on the right. That's not great.

If the port on the left is either ethernet or displayport, this would mean that either an ethernet port or displayport would be missing from the XPS 15 if there are not ports on the back. The right side does not seem to have it if there are only headphone, mic and kensington lock. This would be a step back from the 15z. I don't know if I will get the new XPS 15 if displayport is missing.

    And only two USB ports?

    Let me be clear:

The new XPS 14 appears to have a power, Ethernet, HDMI and (2) USB ports on the left, and a headphone and lock slot on the right, no ODD. That's it.

We don't know for sure what the XPS 15 has since there is no left-side photo. However, if you look at my sig photo, you will notice even more space between the power and USB ports than on the XPS 14, so there is a good possibility the 15 has power, HDMI, mini-display, Ethernet and (2) USB on the left, and an ODD, headphone and mike jack on the right - hopefully with an SD reader as well.

What's the third port in between the headphone/mic jacks and the SD card slot then? Is it a Kingston lock? [IMG]
