New Dell XPS laptop in 2019

Hello,

During a very recent Interview with Trusted Review Dells Vice Price President of Consumer Design confirmed that a new XPS laptop featuring Intels Ice Lake CPU will be launching in 2019 with an official reveal expected this summer (or so he says)

I am curious what this new XPS device is? I personally think it could be is finally a New Dell XPS 17 inch (hoping at least) I could be wrong. I believe the XPS family of notebooks consists currently of only 13 inch and 15.6 inch .

Thinking about what new XPS product it could be

Dell XPS 11 inch ? (no I don’t see that)

Dell XPS 12 inch ? (no I don’t see that) they have the 13 inch

Dell XPS 14 inch ? (no I don’t see that) again they have the 13 inch

Dell XPS Tablet? (No in the article above it mentioned President of Dell Client Solutions Group Sam Burd teased that an Ice Lake-powered XPS laptop will be available by the holiday season)

Lyle also hinted that this Ice Lake device may be an entirely new model in the lineup. “That is a new XPS product,” he said

I did read something a couple of weeks ago about a dell device with dual 2 screens but that was just a patent design and didn’t say anything about XPS or anything. (see below link)

And filing a patent doesn’t necessarily mean anything.

Again, I am hoping this is a New Dell XPS 17 with ICE Lake. I personally think that would be great because the last Dell XPS 17 was discontinued when 6 or 7 years ago? It’s been a lot of changes and improvements since the last XPS.

We now have 4k Screens, OLED Screens, DDR4 Ram, USB Type-C, SSD along with other advancements not mention it could be a lot thinner and weigh less. Add to that the advancements that’s going to come with ICE Lake.


I guess we’ll see though any thoughts?

 

If they do make a XPS 17, let there be a keyboard with numpad on it. And of course, better cooling

 

It seems that the first chips to come out will be the low powered Y and U series, it's probably going to be a small form factor like the XPS 13

 

I'm hoping for a XPS 14 or an XPS13 "Pro" with more ports (USB-A, HDMI) and a LTE/5G option. Better cooling, more battery (to reverse the battery regression of the current XPS13). Matte 1080p panel (or something that is very slightly higher in resolution).

If Ice Lake-U really has an integrated TB3 controller, it will remove that massive BGA off of the board, and leave space for at least something.


Of course, it could also be a 15W U series 13" 2 in 1, instead of the current Y series passively cooled 2 in 1.

 

Yes please. 13 2 in 1 with maglev keyboard, enough power to play forsa 4, lots of ram and high capacity fast storage. Add on stylus support and shut up and take my money. Since it’s an xps product it will be light and built well.

 

So are you saying that there will be another XPS 13 out this year with the Ice Lake CPU?

I was going to order the new 9380 but now I am not sure whether I should wait for a bit?

 

Since this thread is pure speculation, I'll add my 2 cents: first of all I assume he talks only about the new Dell XPS 15. Second, here is my guesswork what is to come:

- They change the chassis a bit: the base will be slightly higher in size to provide better cooling (even for future upgrades). The cooling solution will be similar to the 2-in-1 model.
- They ditch the weird Intel-Amd-GPU solution and stay with Nvidia graphics (I think I read something like this months ago, that the weird solution was just experimental and will not be continued).
- They will upgrade the CPU to Intel Icelake (nothing new though) and probably an RTX 2050 (Nvidia decides mainstream will get Raytracing cores too, therefore "RTX")
- They use a 360° hinge (like the 2-in-1) for the new model, and replace both the Dell XPS 15 and the Dell XPS 15 2-in-1 with this model.
- They put the webcam back on the top again, since the hype about "thinnest edge" is over and every other manufacturer makes thin becels as well.
- They are going for a 16:10 display to stay competitive to Microsoft's Surface Book and Apple's Macbook (which also have this ratio)

- Eventually this product will stay the same for at least 5 years and only be upgraded on the inside (CPU/GPU) year after year (likewise the Dell XPS 15 has stayed the same for years).
- I doubt they will introduce any 17" laptop again. If they nevertheless introduce a 17 inch, it will use a 16:10 display, so it's similar to the new Asus Studiobook W700.
