OK, so got the XPS 14z yesterday and am liking it. BUT not liking that there's no owner's manual, online or otherwise! Really???! I mean, the owner's manual you can track down only tells you how to take it apart, not USE it!!! And the "Quick Start" pamphlet that came with it is about useless. Crazy!

So I am having some issues and need some help, please.

    1. I have the sound muted. Still, every now and then I hear a sound that is best described as the sound a camera shutter makes when a picture is taken. VERY BIZARRE! Any ideas?!

    2. Every now and then when I am typing fast, all of a sudden my current web page gets BIGGER. I must be doing something on the keyboard to do it, but I have no idea WHAT. Any ideas?

    3. OK, of what EARTHLY use is the "battery button" and those 5 silly little lights on the right side? Does the task bar battery icon not tell you how much battery is left? CONFUSED!!!

    Thank you!

I've ordered this laptop for my daughter and we haven't received it yet but from my research,
    2. Pressing control and - (dash) together operates the zoom function in windows. Maybe you're hitting these inadvertently, getting used to the keyboard? Also, might you be brushing the trackpad, also setting off this funtion? Look at the trackpad settings in control panel to adjust the sensitivity.
    3. The battery button is there so that you can check the charge of the battery at any time, whilst the laptop is switched off for example and therefore don't have access to the battery charge indicator onscreen. A useful feature that comes with some Apple laptops. This is an Apple Macbook Pro 13 clone after all.
I'm not sure about your first question but maybe once we get the laptop next week, I'll be able to help you?
    Louis.

Does your battery check indicator actually do anything?

Nothing happens when I press my button, no lights light up - nothing!

Not sure whether I am missing a driver or something?

If your battery really does have a charge when you look at the battery-indicator on the toolbar, then that doesn't sound right. Have you tried the button both when the system is switched on and off? It shouldn't make a difference mind you...
As mentioned previously, I haven't got this laptop yet, I'm due to receive it in a couple of days.

yeah, toolbar says 100% charged; I tried pressing the indicator button when the laptop is on, off and in sleep mode, and none of the lights light up. Either I'm missing a driver (unlikely, and I have got Quickset installed); or something is disconnected inside that should be connected. Annoying but I guess I can live without it.

I might try reimaging the laptop, temporarily with the shipping image again just to see if I missed a driver when I clean re-installed everything.
