Okay guys, first of all, a new IDT audio driver to test ! It seems to me the slight pop when changing song in WMP12 is gone but I'm not too sure. I just downloaded it and might need more people to test it out to see if it fixes the crackling/popping sound. ;)
Second, a new Synaptics touchpad driver to update too. I've always wanted to double tap to access the secondary menu like mac and I found a way to it ! With this 2-finger-gesture tool, our touchpad is exactly like MAC ! (no four fingers yet though) And now, you can double tap like mac multitouch to initiate secondary menu !

Can you explain that to me? I updated to the new drivers, restarted, then extracted the zip file with the two-finger thing. I double-clicked the exe it extracted but I don't think it did anything. When you say double tap, do you mean with two fingers? Or three? Thanks!

Ok, start that tool up, and go to the Tapping tab, over there, on Two fingers, put that as Right Button and the rest keep them as Disabled. There you go ! 2 fingers tap ! :) Oh, you might want to tick the Start with Windows so it runs everytime you start your computer ;)

Ah ok cool. Thanks! I didn't realize that it created a system tray icon, and you click that to configure the settings.

Yup, I kinda dislike that stupid finger icon and I hide it all the time. Also, did you try out that audio driver ? Is it working good ? I have no idea how to replicate the crackling/popping sound @@

I had actually installed that driver earlier today.

If you're still having problems with the crackling sound, try right clicking on the speaker icon in the system tray, then choosing playback devices, then right-clicking on your speakers and choose properties, go over to enhancements, and uncheck 'bass boost'. If it was already unchecked, I dunno what to tell you. I havent had this problem personally, but it seems like people who do not do a fresh install of Windows have their settings configured this way from the factory.

Had the new audio driver installed for a few days now and it works great! Audio used to "freeze" the system randomly until reboot and that appears to be gone!

Will this driver work for a Studio XPS 1645 as well? Or only the 1640?

After several testings, I found out that the driver from Synaptics site itself works the best although it's 14.0.3.

The 3 Finger Down for flip 3D is working good and double tap is good too.

Also I found out that if you did not turn off the scrolling in 2-hand-gesture, it will somehow conflict with the default scrolling provided by the synaptics causing the pinch zoom to be not working properly. I turned it off and it's working great now ! ;)

Hmm, has anyone noticed the "disable automatically to save power" options under sound>recording>and then each individual device? I wonder if it actually does anything. I turned it on and it still detected my voice through the microphone array (while on battery).

Well I am still experiencing all of the horrible popping and crackling that I was before the update. I don't know what else to do, it seems like I've tried everything.

I had the popping issue too back when I used the IDT drivers. I let my comp sit for a min or so. I get windows to play a sound, like for example if you click on the volume icon and you click on the slider button and it makes a ding, you will hear a crack/pop sound.

My fix was to uninstall the IDT driver and reboot and let windows find its own HD audio drivers and I havn't had issues since.

But I will probably give this IDT driver a try.

Hmm, since updating the touchpad drivers (which I downloaded directly from Dell) from 13.x to 14 I seem to have lost two finger scroll.. which worked automatically before. Has anyone else experienced this?

Just tried it - Nope. doesn't happen for me. Do you have to be in a certain app? I was in IE.

Synaptics touchpads support these kinds of gestures, but I don't think Dell officially does. At least that is my guess. I don't know how to turn these features on or off or how to alter them.

There are two gestures that work for me on my XPS 1645. If I place three fingers on the touchpad and hold them there, notepad opens. And if I take two fingers and move them up and down, it scrolls the page.

That's three fingers down, just disable it in touchpad settings.
