So my original M1730 (which works perfectly) came with some cosmetic flaws, as in scuff marks and significant dents on the top of the lid. I sent pictures of the damage to Dell and they agreed to send me out a new replacement.

I got the new replacement M1730 today, and go to power it on from battery as I typically do because usually the batteries come fully charged . Funny, it didn't power up. Fair enough, i figured it wasn't charged, so i plugged it in and away I went.

Except the battery indicator is flashing orange as its plugged in. Uh oh, i press the power indicator of the battery itself and it shows 100% charged. Bios shows 100% charge. I unplug the a/c and it powers down.

Reseated the battery, it still powers down. Tried the battery from my working but dented m1730 and it powers down. So, tomorrow Dell will be collecting the same computer they just sent me today, and I'll be demanding yet another brand new machine be sent to me to replace the old one.

Interesting side note; This M1730 had bios version A09!! My current one is A06, and as far as i can tell A06 is the latest on the dell website. Fishy things here!!!

You still only have 21 days in which to decide to return the notebook. If they cannot fix it until after the 21, return and re-order.

I think in the UK its only 7 days?

I think I'm past that anyway. However all of my replacements are guaranteed to be NEW IN BOX computers.

Which they won't be. They'll be refurbs. But if they guarantee you'll get a new in box and they send you a refurb, you can argue and they eventually have to give you a new in box comp.

How can i tell its a refurb or not?

I recieved one today with the battery issues, and it seemed new to me, but how can i really tell?

I have the email where he guaranteed me a new pc. I'm fairly sure it was new. Wouldn't a refurb have REFURBISHED at the bottom?

My refurb has a big green "refurb" sticker at the bottom. By US law, refurbished models have to be clearly marked as such, though I don't know how Dell treats their overseas units.
