Howdy everyone! Great site here (found it via some searches on graphics card reviews). I look forward to discussion with everyone throughout the future.

Anyway, I just ordered a new XPS lappie from Dell. I couldn't get the lady in TX to give me a better deal than the online price (her loss), so I went back on Dell's website and got a gent from India on chat. He had me email him the config I wanted, he then called and gave me approx. $345 more off ($2069 versus $2414), plus I got a few small "extras" I wasn't expecting (leather accent on case, 3 years of McAfee versus 1, etc). I had to deny hi first offer (about $200 off) before he offered me the best deal. ;)

I also opted for the LoJack Premium for 3 years, since it wasn't in the promotional configuration he was able to offer, which added $84.99. FWIW, the $2414 online config did offer 1 year of LoJack for free, which normally runs $32.99 to 45.99 (depending if Standard or Premium edition), so if you take that off the price I still saved $299 to $312).

Here's my config (thanks for commenting, in advance):

Did you already place the order for this?..or is this just a config?
Edit: Nevermind, I see you already placed the order....
There were some deals going on...like this..even *upgrading* the Processor, wouldn't have cost as much:
    Dell Studio XPS 16 Core i7 1.6GHz, 2.8 GHz Turbo Mode/6MB Cache, 4GB, WLED etc- $1,247 w/$100 Gift Card + Free Shipping @dell.com

It just depends on whether you feel you really need, 3 years LoJack, etc.... ;)

Either way, congrats are in order! :D Enjoy your lappy!

Cin, thanks for the link. I did already know about that deal, actually. However, using that link would have added $500+ to my config. The deal I got was definitely better.

$2583 using the link you tout, versus the $2069 via me bargaining the Dell salesman down. Even adding for the LoJack of $85.99 ($2069 + $85.99 = $2154.99) and subtracting the $100 gictcard from your link's config ($2583 - $100 = $2483), I still saved $328.01!

This is what I started out with below before I upgraded the processor and added a few extras. This came out to $1,719.00. Using the link you provide, that would have been $2201. That's a $482 difference. Even subtracting the $100 gift card promo, one would still save $382.

On a side note, if anyone is interested in the below config, I can give you the employees email addy, as well as his direct extension. I'm sure he'd be happy to work with you the same way as me.

    Code:
    224-6716 1 Studio XPS 16 Notebook

Hi, Due to an error in dell's ecatalog I had to go thru several people at dell
with the ultimate order being filled out by one of the dell managers.

my question is simple, the system i ordered is supposed to have the
"RGB-LED' backlit screen. the order sheet seems to indicate a
"WLED" (White LED?) if so I need to have them correct the order before it
    has been manufactured.

320-8335 1 Premium FHD WLED Display, Obsidian Black, 2.0 MP Webcam

does the above indicate a RGB-LED display ?

I have emailed dell several time and never get a reply.

My present XPS M1530 has the WLED display and I want the RGB-LED in the new system.

I Love both my XPS-730C and the XPS M1530 but have had little luck dealing with Dell Support.

Can someone put my mind at ease about the display?

That part # you list is actually the RGB-LED. The description is wrong, but the part # is correct. See the 1st post here and feel rest assured that all is well:

    Thanks BfB!!!!!!

I was really concerned. I guess Dell is so busy with all the new computers
people are buying to get Win 7, that they don't have time to reply.

I think I likely paid too much, but it doesn't really matter to me.
As Popeye says -" I wants what I wants and When I wants it "

My configuration is similar to yours except I have
    no BluRay (didn't want it)
No LoJack (I did want that must have missed the selection)
No 3 year warranty (mine is only 2 years and no accident protection)
Do have 8 GB 1333 Mhz memory
Do Have Vista/Win 7 Ultimate (not sure which they will ship with)

mine came at ~$2700.00 but that barely slid in under my remaining credit.

The ecatalog offered all this PLUS a 920 processor (which they say was an error ) with 4GB mem and Vista Premium (no Bluetooth mentioned)
for $1299. I argued myself blue in the face stating that IMHO they should have at least given me the same configuration in the Ad but with the 820 processor for the same price stated in the ad. But No Go but like I said I'm an impatient person. Now the 11/11/2009 ship date has changed to sometime next year.... Oh well, I picked up a HP Pavillion dv7-3085dx yesterday at Best Buy for $1299.00 and got Microsoft Office student edition for $69.00 and a Cannon all in one printer for $29.00.
The HP has an I-720QM , 6 GB DDR3 Memory, Nvidia Geforce GT 230M video with 1MB dedicated ram,Win7 Premium etc...
And gess what, You can install a second 500 GB 7200 RPM SATA2 internal hard drive. they get you on the screen though it's only HD 720P, but for the price its amazingly fast.

it will keep me happy till the XPS gets here

I'll give the HP to my nephew since he was given a full scholarship to one of the engineering univ. but no laptop was included.

Sorry bout running off and some of this may have been slightly off topic.

Many thanks again for your help..

HP is good and I've had good experience with their products, but a 1mb video card won't even run any of today's OS's. :) <-- jk

After seeing so many posts here of folks "haggling" with the reps, I regret I didn't do the same, but with my luck, they would have slammed the door in my face while laughing. I still think i got a good deal on mine, which I got back in August.

    T9600 2.8ghz Intel
    4gb 1067 ram
    1gb ATI 4670 video
    Bluetooth
    5300 Intel wifi half card
No Blueray (I have a PS3 for that)
    RGB LED 1080p screen
Windows Vista Ultimate w/free upgrade to Win7
    500gb HD
NO MS Office (already had it)
    Norton 15 month sub
    2 year Complete care w/Lojack
    $1787 out the door

I've tried to price the same system lately and it always comes out about $200 more, which is quite a bit of savings for the financially conscious consumer. :)

that was a brain fart on my part... the video card has 1Gig dedicated memory.
    Sorry....
