    Hey Guys,
My new SXPS has the ethernet problem after resuming from sleep. The only way to fix is to restart. Tried updating drivers, etc. Any ideas? This is with Windows 7 X64.
    Thanks.

What steps have you taken so far such as have you re-installed the drivers deleting anything for the broadcom lan?? what have you tried or have you tried nothing?

In addition, what *precisely* is happening? Is the adapter completely disabled? Is it showing an IP but can't go anywhere? If you unplug it and plug it back in does it work? Does this happen with different switches and hubs?

    Ok so here goes.

I have Windows 7, latest BIOS, latest Drivers from the Dell website, updated all the drivers(ethernet, chipset, video etc). Everything works as normal after boot, but the problem comes when I resume from sleep.

So, after I close the lid, and then open it, log in, the ether net will not work. The lights do not blink, and network connection will show ethernet cable not plugged in even though its plugged in. I tried the windows repair, disable and re-enable the adpater, uninstall the driver and re-install it, remove ethernet cable and plug in again.

After all this, the lights will still not blink and the system will not connect through ethernet. It only shows wifi. Logging off does not fix the issue. The only way it will work again is if I restart the whole system.

Any ideas? I tried both the microsoft driver and dell driver as well as old NVIDIA nforce drivers. Same problem in Vista also. Using 64-bit editions.

I don't think its broadcom? The ethernet is from the chipset, shows up as NVIDIA ethernet. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and re-installing. I even tried a fresh install of Vista to see if it was just Windows 7 giving the problem, but same problem in Vista as well.

Take a look at this, and see if the key exists:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/239924

I used to have a similar problem with a certain combination of motherboard (onboard NIC) and switch that I had at home. This was with XP, and the article doesn't state support for Vista or 7 with it, but it might be worth a start. My adapter kept getting an IP at boot, then would get disabled and not come back up.

Nope did not work. So in Windows 7, does your Ethernet work correctly? I don't know if its a general issue or an isolated one. I am trying a motherboard replacement tomorrow, but I want to avoid a refurbished board and am not ready for the laptop to be taken apart since its brand new.

Yes I am having the exact same problem.
It was happening on Windows Vista x64. Now it is still happening on Windows 7 x64.

After resuming from sleep, then plug in the ethernet.
The LED lights do not even light up on the ethernet port like they should.

The only solution I have found is to reboot.

I have tried drivers from Windows update, NVidia. Still have the same problem.

Thanks for the post. Now I am on fence about the motherboard replacement. I think it might be a bios/chipset issue...Wish more people would confirm.

I don't have any way to test that in the immediate future in any reliable fashion. I either use WiFi or Bluetooth tethering.

I forgot to mention, I have a dual boot between Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

I have no problems with ethernet when using Ubuntu and resuming from sleep. So I don't think it is a hardware issue.

Oh thanks for that conformation. So it must be a driver issue. Its wierd since it does not work on Vista or Windows 7. What version of windows 7 are you using?

Thought I would test it for you ;) Mine is running HP 64, NIC driver v 73.1.4.0 (07.30.2009), power management off on the NIC and my 1340 resumes just fine with active NIC connection.

    sculi56,
Win 7 HP x64 or vista? What do you mean by power management off? As in "Turn off this device to save power" Which chipset drivers and video card drivers are you using?
    Thanks in advance.

Win 7 64 HP, I use all current released drivers from nvidia site except for the SATA, which I had to roll back to 10.3.0.42 (Dell 11.1.0.30 and nVidia's 11.1.0.33 would have issues on mine), otherwise I get HDD hangs with plenty of NVSTOR64 events. BTW, with the nVidia nforce package, I did not install LAN manager.

Mine resumes from standby just fine as well. I'm using all the Dell drivers for Win7/Vista (if there's a Win7 version, I use it, otherwise I use the Vista one).

    Temon,
I tried but did not work. You have problems with ethernet of wifi?
    Thanks.

I updated to NVIDIA drivers, 73.1.4.0 and still having problems. Guess I have to go with the motherboard replacement and see if that helps.

I think we might just have bad hardware. I will see how the replacement board is. Worst case scenario i'll have to set the computer to go into hibernation instead of sleep when i close the lid.

I hope thats the case because I really do not want a motherboard replacement, since everything else works perfectly. Ethernet works fine now if I set it to hibernate instead of sleep when I close the lid. Maybe it'll get fixed with the next bios update or the next driver update.

Gonna try Ubuntu Linux to check if its a hardware issue because EJohn posted that his works fine under linux and has problems under Win 7.

I am using the Dell drivers package R238876 which gives me the drivers with version 7.3.1.7310.

I originally had the drivers that Windows 7 automatically installs from a clean install.
Both of these have the exact same problem of ethernet not working after waking from sleep mode.

I also have the problem of the touch media buttons not working sometimes.

The best is when the touch buttons don't work, ethernet doesn't work, then the wifi touch button doesn't respond and wifi keeps turning on and off all by itself  .

Then I have to shutdown, take out the battery, push the power button, put the battery back, then restart.

    Sucks.

Plus the heat this thing puts out, scorching hot...

This is the last Dell I will ever buy again!

I finally fixed the issues. Did a fresh install and used drivers from the NVIDIA website for the chipset and the ethernet. Not sure what the problem was, but it is fixed now. Thanks everyone for all the help.

    Cheers.

Thats unfortunate if you guys would have gotten the 16 you would be saying you love dell not trying to rub it in but when i was in the market again for a laptop i was going to get the M1330 but I saw how many problems it had so in an unfortunate turn of events i got a Studio 15 (i could only get a Dell comp) and i hated it interaactive touch controls never worked, touchpad was as sensitive as a rock, and it just plain old sucked but i got an upgrade and got a SXPS 16 and after an undervolt and reapp of the thermal paste this thing runs amazing but the moral of the story is the 13' dell laptops haven't always been the best, and Dell makes some crappy lappy's and makes some amazing ones but wish you guys all the best and if you ever change your minds again try this laptop

The only issues I've had with the media keys are from the QuickSet app dying. I just restart it. And usually the only "problem" is that I can't see the graphic while adjusting the volume. I hope there's a newer one for Win7, but I haven't looked lately.
