First off, congrats on the smart purchase. :)

As far as what you SHOULD do, it's a matter of personal preference. When I got mine a few weeks ago, I went ahead and registered everything i needed to and then i ran Windows update to get Vista up to speed. After all of that and realizing how "slow" Vista is (along with missing using Windows 7 RC), I went ahead and installed Windows 7 RC. All in all, everything installed as it should have without any issues with my hardware. After the OS was taken care of, I spent a couple of days installing all of my software I had on my previous machine.

So, again, it's up to you what you want on your machine. be aware thought that if you opt for installing Windows 7 RC, it's only good until next Spring. If you went ahead and registered for your free upgrade to Windows 7, when that arrives, you will have to reinstall Windows 7. I guess it all boils down to how big of a headache you want later. I had originally intended on dealing with Windows Vista until I received my retail version, but decided against it later and figured the time it would take to reinstall later was a small sacrifice compared to using Vista for the next couple of months...that's just my opinion though and I am sure you will hear differing opinions from everyone else.

Hi jmorv, thanks for your opinion. Currently I'm doing all the vista updates, firefox, skype etc etc. Hmm, it seems that I couldn't register for the Windows 7 program now. Regarding the battery, should I unload it or recharge it or what ? Because it seems to be full.

Also, I noted sparking noise from my power adapter. Is it okay ? :(

I did a clean install of Vista for now, removing the bloatware and then will do a clean Win 7 when the free copy arrives. No sense doing 7 twice, and all the drivers will be easy to find later on.
