I was just wondering if its a good idea to leave the battery in when your working of the power-supply for extended periods. My last Dell (3 years old) I managed to preserve the battery by taking it out and only plugging it in for the rare occasion (maybe twice a month) that I need to use the battery.

I see that my new XPS 15 has a option to stop charging the battery until the next restart. So should I take the battery out like I did with my old Inspiron or can i leave it in with out effecting the life time of the battery?

I think the biggest problem in previous XPS models wasn't the charging but the heat.

However, if you notice, your battery will automatically disable charging once it reaches full. Even if you discharge it a little bit and then plug it back in, it won't fully recharge. Only if you substantially discharge it will charging be re-enabled.
