My friend that has a brother that works as a Dell technician sent me this picture, it looks pretty convincing:

I'm not going to vouch for how legit the picture is (since my friend sent it to me), but for now just take it as a rumor. Other than the new over-sized touchpad (that could be interesting), it pretty much looks the same. I'd guess that there's new choices for the lid, too.
EDIT: My friend sent me another picture:

Just looks like a couple mods to me..
-
Ya, it pretty much looks the same as the current one. Except for that touchpad of course. If the other rumors are true than the xps line is being discontinued anyways. The pictures accompanying that rumor look interesting though.
-
Double posted for some reason. Ignore this post! It's not here!
-
Hmmmmm....thanks for the pic's and such
...but, until it's official from Dell....
That touchpad though! Wow!
We shall see soon enough!

If whats been posted on other threads about the xps 1530 being end of life this November, then I seriously doubt they would make any changes to the 1530. They would have to modify the current cases and that would not be very cost effective if they are going to be phasing them out soon. We will have to wait and see. P;us that pic looks like it is at someones apartment/house which would lean me more towards it was a homemade mod.

A few more things about the picture and Dell's new lineup(according to my friend):
That's one of the first builds of the Dell Mini Inspiron (without the casing, obviously) next to the M1330.
They're both hooked up to voltage meters.
That XPS M1330 is running on Montevina.
Dell is testing a few of NVIDIA's 9-series cards in the M1330 and the M1530.
The M1330 pictured is one of the early builds for the new design, his brother can't take pictures of the newest one since they would be able to track them to him (because of how little the latest build has been sent out and he isn't able to bring it out of Dell).
The keyboard is backlit.
Apparently, Dell is still deciding whether to keep the XPS name on the lineup. He says that didn't hear "Studio XPS" tossed around too much.
I'll try to get as much info from him as I can. Anybody know any good questions I can ask him? -
-
A glossy touchpad? That means drag and an uncomfortable time trying to close "private" windows
.
-
wow thats cool! i hope thats real. Btw can u ask him when they r coming out?

How come? Is Quadro better?
If so, ^_^. -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
No, Quadro is optimized for CAD applications and Geforce cards are optimized for games. You can change the drivers on one of them (i.e. Quadro to Geforce for better performance in games) to get better performance depending on the kind of applications you run.

9500M GS in the M1530? ****, it's basically the same as an 8600M GT. Can your contact say anything regarding the release date and what's up with that giant touchpad?

I don't know this doesn't look believeable...it looks like it's been photoshopped. It appears like your friend's brother wanted to make the touchpad look like glass. So for that effect he made it look like it reflects the screen. However, if you look on the screen, there isn't any area of it that resembles what is "reflected" on the touchpad.

Ask him if he knows when the Mini I is going to roll out!

I'm sorry I just had to do that.....

My friend's gone now, so I'll ask anymore him any questions he gets between now and then tomorrow.
BTW, he sent me another picture before he left (both of which he took a while ago, again it's an older model of the new M1330):

watt, end of this year? Thats when the studio xps comes out. thats just stupid
-
That's why I'm waiting on any official *release*info from Dell itself
But...*if* the info was accurate at 100%...hmmmm

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but take a look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXYshhuJzh4
The pictures in this thread are screengrabs from that video. The link was posted on Engadget in the comments section of this story:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/31/dell-replacing-xps-touchpad-with-touchscreen-or-someone-some/
Nvidia probably took an M1330 and modded it for the Tegra. -
Doh!!!!!!!
-
Thought so...
But whatever......
ElectricTool, Thanks for providing the info
Cin -
Uh ooooh,
Michael, you got some 'splainin to do. -
Haha called it. That engadget article is funny though. It looks like they read these forums a lot judging by how many rumors they get from here.
-
......and, like most of us thought there was something *fishy*
Oish.

I hope the M1330 replacement will be like the Vaio Z, with 16:9 aspect ratio screen, hopefully a 1600x900 screen option like on higher end Zs. And also switchable graphics, Intel integrated and Nvidia or ATI graphics, I prefer ATI right now because of the problems with Nvidia.
I want to see some like Vaio Z alternatives, I hope Dell can deliver! -
I doubt Dell will deal with ATI, for now anyway.
-
I just want Dell to *deliver* in aspects of truly releasing everything ~ soon
Cin -
Me too. My M1530 is supposed to come in about a week and I'm having second thoughts. Should I get a newer version? Should I get a 13"? Should I get a Mac?
-
michael get out of here.
-
I know you want the 1530, so why not give it a tad bit more of time?? The 1530 is a sweet lappyAlso, there is nothing 100% confirmed with the line yet, either!
I'm still hanging on for my Mini I...even though there are some *other good brands out there right now*....You need to narrow it down if you want a 15" notebook or indeed a 13", and then go from there
Just some thoughts to ponder, that's all
Cin -
Got the M1530 mostly because of its video card, to play games. I'm no big gamer, and I'd rather focus on school, but I want to have the possibility to play. What if some awesome game comes out that everybody plays but I can't because I have a bad GPU? A 13" would be better for battery and portability, two things I really need for college.
So do I make the responsible decision and get a laptop that gives me all I need, and doesn't allow me to waste time playing games? Or do I get a laptop that I can do more with, but also gives me more ways to waste time with? That's always been the question and the reason I've always doubted my decision once my mind was set on one or the other. -
And, I understand what you are saying....You are torn between 2..1530 and a 13"....Is there anyway you can check out locally any of 1330's that you are interested in? You would need to do it fast in case your order ships sooner.*You also have 21 days of date of invoice to return..
I was torn bet. the 1330 vs. 1530...1330 Smaller and portable...1530 larger, but had everything I needed in it. I went to the Kiosk and played with both several times...and ended up with the 1530...cuz it would do everything I needed...After I ordered I had that *hesitation of regret and questioning* did I indeed make the right decision?...Now, I know I did.
Go back an reread your post above...maybe you might find some help to your question there....It seems like you want both (or a blend of), but are leaning toward the portabilty and use factor for school
I have no prob's with my 1530..I have the 8600 in my 1530 and all is well with it, and has always been that way.
Hoping that helps you,

Sorry guys for the bad tip...
I was talking to my friend (who I've only met once) and he sent me the picture. It looked pretty convincing to me so I decided to post it here. Wow, it got on Engadget, too...
I wasn't sure if he was being serious or if he was just messing with me when I posted it. That's why I said that I wasn't going to vouch for how legit the picture was. Sorry again guys. BTW, that was typed on an iPhone. -
To Tumido, I would personally get a M1330 for college, especially for portability. I currently go to one of the largest campuses in the US and have to walk a pretty long distance to get to class, carrying something that is 1lb less makes a huge difference when you're walking a lot. Trust me I have tried from experience, currently on my 4th laptop now and I notice a difference from the Latitude X300 with extended battery to the M1330 with the 6 cell battery. You wouldn't think the extra bulkiness makes a difference but it does a lot. And also I have found myself playing less and less video games during college because there just isn't enough time anymore. I suggest getting what you need more than what you want. I had a Inspiron 9300 strictly for gaming but gave that to my brother and used the Latitude X300 for daily usage. Battery life also plays a huge role. I am okay with the M1330 4 hour battery life but I really wished it had the 7-8 hours that my X300 was getting. Having something that you can easily whip out and use and pack up quickly is really convenient.

The M1330 would be enough to game on too. You can definitely handle games on it at ok frame rates although it won't be top of the line graphics. However, you might want the 1530 because none of my classes require me to take a laptop to them. They actually don't want us having laptops in class (distraction) and say not to bring them. I don't need a laptop in my calc class, spanish, econ, African American History, or English class. Also there are a lot of things that you just HAVE to write down unless you have a touch screen and are writing it on that. You gotta write diagrams and such. In the end it's easier to just use pencil and paper and use your laptop for gaming/writing papers. For me I simply choose smaller because I travel a lot and don't want to carry a lot of weight and have found that even the integrated graphics on this laptop I'm using can handle everything I play at the moment.
This obviously wont be so if you plan to play the latest games but then again if you want to be gaming don't even bother with Nvidia graphics cards. You are going to be stressing the GPU a lot could cause it to break and then have to send it in for a repair. The X400 or X500 from lenovo gives you montevina, better batterylife if you do decide to take it to classes, stronger gaming performance and reliability. The design is quite bland though which is why I really am trying to wait on the XPS but if I don't have news by my birthday I'm pretty much going to buy an X400 and be very angry at Dell for being this late on montevina. Or just buy and return an XPS and get the new one because I really don't care if they are going to make us wait without even a leak on the release date. -
I could see why this might be a valid rumor seeing how it is kind of like the Apple rumors of a touchscreen touchpad. Pretty neat, too bad it is false. For now
