I just got an XPS M1530 and had to wipe the harddrive to triple boot Vista, Ubuntu and MD. But I can't connect to the internet on Vista, I think I just need the drivers but I can't seem to find the right one. I'm trying to connect wired straight to my router.
Although I could connect wirelessly if needed, but I can't do this either as Vista doesn't detect any networks for some reason.
Is there a downloadable CD that I could use that contains all the necessary drivers?
Thanks,
Dewi.
PS The laptop connects straight away with ubuntu.

Couple ideas:
1. Most notebooks have the option of turning off the wireless card with a hotkey (like Fn+[some other number key]). Make sure the wireless is turned on. Make sure you have the hotkey utility installed so they work...

2. Also, make sure your router is broadcasting the networks (for wireless) otherwise you will not see it. This would be handled through the routher configuration, not the notebook.
That's probably why you aren't seeing any networks wirelessly.
3. If you can connect, but get no internet, it is likely the stupid Windows Firewall which you can turn off or endlessly configure.
Wired, yes, it is likely the driver.

Thanks for the help I can now connect to the internet with a wire but wireless is till proving difficult. I've installed the drivers and tried switching off windows firewall. I can connect to the network but only have "limited connectivity" even though the signal is full.
Such a fuss with Vista to get everything up and running, Ubuntu did everything for me. I insatlled it and opened firefox and evereything worked. I hate microsoft... -

IF you have a connection to your network all the hardware is working alright.
This is within Vista, and I agree, one of the annoyances.
We already turned off or configured the Windows Firewall, now try this...
->Check and make sure you don't have another anti-virus with firewall on (I am going to assume you don't, but this is if anyone else has a similar problem).
-> Go to your control panel | device manager. Expand the network devices category | right click on your network adapter. Click properties | advanced tab. Find TCP Checksum offload and disable them, both IPv4 and IPc6.
-> Go to the network & sharing center -Control Panel / Network and Internet / Network and Sharing Center and see if you see something that looks like this, and click to diagnose...
-> There is a Microsoft support document that may help, if you have DHCP on your network: Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers or from certain non-Microsoft DHCP servers

Sorry for being so long in replying and thanks again. But with the first suggestion you made in the last post, the options you mention aren't there.
So the problem is still there. Anybody have any ideas?

Just download the drivers off of here from a computer with an active internet connection (or just use the wired connection), copy to USB stick or burn to CD, and install. You should have gotten a Drivers and Utilities CD with your M1530.

If you do not know what to download, state what kind of wireless card you have.
As for your wired ethernet connection, make sure you have the following driver to prevent further issues.

You also want to make sure you manually connect to windows update and download everything as Windows Update is also able find all the drivers typically with your wired connection.
