I must admit I am not impressed with this laptop, for 1700 bucks I expected more quality. The thing is so loud, the fans are pretty much on most of the time even if Im just surfing the net and the hard drive is pretty noisy too. I havent tested the dvd drive out yet but that will be done soon. One thing that concerns me is that on the box that I received from Dell I saw that it was sent to me Dell returns in Canada. I was like WTF did they send me someones replacement laptop? Has anyone else noticed this?
How loud are your M1530s? Should I get mine replaced?

I think I got a lemon, I was looking at the hinges and then have scratches in the black dell part, if it was a new laptop I wouldnt think it would be scratched. The fans are on pretty much the whole time on mine, does yours have the intel or Dell wifi card btw? I have the Dell one and its not able to pick up my router when ssid is turned off.

If your router is not broadcasting SSID then the laptop will not connect to the router unless you manually configure the SSID on the laptop wireless NIC configuration. That's how WIFI works.

Mine is very quiet the fans hardly come on except for a short "burst" every now and then and go right back off. I don't do a lot of gaming though...

The sticker he was talking about are the ones covering the dell logo on the hinges. They can be difficult to see and remove.

I think they will send you a refurb...or you would have to send it back within the return period and reorder to get a brand new one. Cheers!!!

Apart from setting the SSID manually, you also need to make sure the option "Connect even if the network is not broadcasting" is checked.

I dunno if Im being picky or not but the fan is constantly on as I am typing this. Its been on since I powered on the laptop..Im going to try doing a reimage without all the dell crap and if there is no improvement its going back..are all your laptop fans spinning constantly as well?

My fan is never always on (just on in short bursts) then goes right off. Right now just typing it's completely silent. I did format and reinstall Vista the day after I got it. But I didn't notice any constant fan noise before I did that. Maybe you need to send it back for an exchange...

I have a new 1530 and it's dead silent. Call 'em up and demand a replacement or threaten to return it.

Yeah mine goes in bursts as well and is more silent now after I reimaged the system but the stupid dell wifi card still wont detect my router when the SSID is not broadcast, its so annoying..I am thinking of just getting my money back or getting the intel card..I thought the Dell card would be better.

my hdd seems to swap all the time too, I haven't done a fresh format though and have installed quite some stuff to see how it was working, so it might be it, if it keeps doing that much noise after though, I'll strongly reconsider.

If you've installed a bunch of stuff you should probably do a defrag. That or just reformat and start from scratch without the Dell bloatware.

Formatting the hdd does help, mine is quiet now and not revving up all the time, I also got the dell wireless to finally work with my router thats not broadcasting but it was a pain.Does anyone have the Dell 1505 wireless N card in their system? What do you think of it? I had a hard time getting it to work with my dlink G router with ssid turned off.

Adding myself to this thread. I have a brand new M1530 and the fan is almost unbearable. Given you can't go to the store and check for other units, I'm wondering if I should ask for a replacement. Just sitting here, the fan will come on very loud (louder than any of my desktops, as a way of comparison) and then go off again. this is doing nothing but sitting there. I have no programs running. God help me if I start something up.
