I currently have the old XPS17 laptop which I love and I am very tempted to replace it with the new XPS17, however I noticed that the UK version is very expensive and has a lot less options for customisation when compared to the US version.

I have two questions that I hope someone can answer.

Do we know if the improved specifications will be available in the UK in the near future?

Is it possible to buy the laptop from America and have it shipped to the UK to use it here and still receive warranty support etc?

I have been lurking for a while but haven't seen this topic discussed. Apologies if I have missed it. Any help greatly appreciated.

You cannot purchase a laptop off of the Dell's site and have it shipped to another country outside of the US. Sorry.

The warranty would not work either.

Theoretically you could order it with an international warranty via an intermediary, but I wouldn't want to put it to the test. You'd also have to put up with (or swap out) a US keyboard, so I'd pay the extra or try to find another machine.

Maybe you can upgrade/keep your existing machine going until Dell get cheaper in the UK. 2.5 years ago they were slightly cheaper than the US! Maybe again sometime?

The thing that really hacks me off is the 1080p upgrades: $130 becomes £170; roughly double. Even Apple don't do that.

I don't think I'll be buying another Dell for a while.

Perhaps. but it's not possible to purchase a laptop off of the dell US site and have it shipped outside of the country (via Dell Home Ordering online site).

Well, found this thread, OP may want to check it out. How to order from dell US for non US citizens

There is an option for an international transfer of warranty. Try this

Thanks everyone for the replies, I have been away for a few days so just seen them now. I will check out the options you showed me and let you know if I have any success.

It is very disappointing for a Dell XPS lover like me that the UK version is so inferior and expensive, I hope something changes soon.

It's not all that easy to get Dell to post it out of the US, but aside from that, warranty can be transferred with ease.

I have a US keyboard on my laptop (as i was living there when i purchased it 5 years ago!) and the only thing i missed from it was the "£" key. I got used to the layout. Infact the US keyboards are backlit (true for the XPS 15 at least, not sure about the XPS 17) which might actually make it tempting for some to get it over the UK keyboard.

Never tried purchasing a laptop from another country but that thread that Cin has found looks really useful. Good digging there!
