    Dear Folks,

I would like to replace my old Dell desktop (C521) with a new laptop Dell XPS (Sandy Bridge).

Here are the results of my investigation:

    XPS 15 (2630QM), 4GB, 1080p, 649GB = £901
    XPS 17 (2630QM), 6GB, 3D 1080p, 3Gb GC, 640GB = £991

Is the XPS17 worth the extra £91?

One other question - I love using my two 24" monitors on my desktop PC.

Q1. With laptop can I drive two external monitors?
Q2. Can I only drive one external screen and the laptop display?

Your advice would help me on my switch from Desktop to laptop journey.

Larger Screen and possible better cooled chassis versus the weight and size, extra ram and it appears you also get 3D? for around 150 US. Sure why not lol. You also seemed to make a mention of the graphics ram, not sure if your getting a better card with your config on the 17 or not as you didnt say much on either.

Question 2 which seems to be the backup if 1 fails is the most likely answer I have seen the question about running 3 total or running 2 external only and have yet to see an answer but I rarely follow up.

The i7-2630QM btw is a great CPU if you have a previous gen i5 some of the previous Gen i7's or anything C2D you should really find it an enjoyable cpu. Laptop graphics lag a bit more severely than the CPU's atm. EDIT We have a 3800+ X2 here btw and the i7-2630 would straight up murder your old desktop lol.

Thank you - is there a major difference between the two screens?

    Hi,

The 17" version isn't an RGB LED screen, it's a straight forward LED backlit screen - I'll leave you to research the minor points of that :)

Just to say - I have had a 17" FHD screen for years and now I have the 15" L502x - I don't miss the extra physical space & I am very grateful for the lower weight and slightly smaller physical footprint.

    Best.
