So the 25% coupon finally arrived (thank goodness) and I configured a system I'm pretty happy with for $1,274

    T9300 2.5 GHz
    4 GB RAM
160 GB 7200 RPM drive (is this slower than the 250 GB @ 5400 drive?)
    8600M GT
    LED LCD
    6-cell battery

    1) Does this look like a pretty decent deal?
    2) Isn't it possible to buy a 9-cell battery online later at a cheaper price? Especially since Dell is going through battery woes...$169 seems way too much for that upgrade. Plus, I'd have two batteries aka even more juice, right?

    Thanks, folks.

wow, now that's a real *****. Thanks for link though

Does anybody find the 9-cell to be too much to carry around? Does it ever get in your way in tight spaces (ie airplane)?

As far as your battery question: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=271319. There's also another thread someplace.

And that is a great deal. Well played. I'm surprised you got the T9300 for that price. Beautiful.

However. You completely specced this thing out. You've got all the top options. But why did you choose such a low capacity hard drive? I would go with the 320 gigabyte one. I would fill up 160 gigabytes in a second. I don't know what you're using it for, but I'm just saying. That's not that big, especially when you've put so much into everything else. Don't change horses mid stream.

And that hard drive is actually faster than the 5400 RPM'er.

Oh but when i say it is faster, i don't mean you should get it over the 250 gigabyte one. You'll hardly notice the speed difference. if you're caught between the two, go for the 250.

You can get the battery later on if you want it. I would wait a while though because the prices are artificially high right now due to constrained supply.

The 250GB 5400 RPM will perform about the same as the 160GB 7200 due to higher data density on the 250 GB drive.

What I did was get 6-cell with order and ordered 9-cell off of ebay that was brand new. I got it about two months ago for only 60 bucks BRAND NEW.

Very satisfied and working perfectly. The flexibility of switching between the two are awesome.

^^^ +1. Li-ion batteries start losing their charge capacity the day they are made.

but at $60, who cares! good deal!

Nope, she mailed me with the battery a copy of her Invoice with her M1530 which she had literally received a week before as advertised in ebay.

The battery lasts a good 3 hours and 30 mins, so I'm not complaining. Besides, at the price, its worth trying it out. :)

Cool, thanks for the replies. I was wondering if those eBay batteries would fit the XPS line...I guess they do.

rypic7: I just wanted a 7200 RPM drive in it, since I'll be using it for college and I figure a lot of my multimedia can just be on a stationary external hard drive. But..maybe I'm missing something here. I just want to optimize speed
