Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. For the past few weeks I have been researching laptops and kept ending up here, so I figured I should join!

Aside from a few desktops, my only laptop has been a Toshiba A25-S279. Had that since 2004 and served me well since then, even through Iraq. And the battery still lasts over 2 hours.

I have been searching for a replacement and was initially leaning toward one of many Asus options. I also considered Macs (love OSX) but the price was not looking good.

At Staples I saw an M1330 and was amazed by it. After looking online I decided the M1530 would be a good match for me. I was looking for a relatively small/light laptop with a good amount of power/capabilities. I think the M1530 fits the bill.

I was going to order new, but decided to go through the outlet for considerable savings and much better hardware compared to what I could have afforded new. So this is what I got:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
    Sound Blaster Audigy (Software Edition)
    8x CD\DVD-DL RW
    4GB DDR2 @ 667MHz
    Vista Home Premium
    Dell 355 Bluetooth
    320GB 5400RPM HDD
    nVidia GeForce 8600m GT
    WXGA+
    Tuxedo Black

I will be installing Linux on the machine, but will keep a Windows OS for gaming. I should be getting it today!

Looking forward to my time here at NBF! :D

Nice rig. Make sure you report back on how you like your Outlet notebook. There are always lots of questions asked here about the Outlet Store, so many will be curious. BTW, my own experience with the Outlet Store has been excellent, and I'm guessing that yours will be as well. :)

    ^^^ rgr, will do!

i had a friend who got an inspirion from the outlet a couple years ago and his experience was excellent.

The only thing I will say about the outlet is that in particular for the M1530, they dont seem to give the resolution other than saying WXGA, WXGA+, etc. I would prefer that it give the actual resolution instead. but other than that, so far, so good!

    Hi all

I am from India, and I ordered my 1530 yesterday. I have opted for 4gb DDR2 (instead of 3), and a 1440 resolution. Apart from that I hhave taken the base configuration available in India.

This forum has been highly useful. I felt a bit jealous that all you people already enjoy what I am still to experience. I am hoping to contribute to this forum (like it helped me ) and answer what doubts others will have.

I am kind of a forum freak, and check for updates every 5 minutes. Hoping to be a member of this forum as long as I use my 1530 (2-3 years)

PS: Where can I look for the games which I will be able to play with my config?

    ^^^ congrats on your purchase.

i just got mine yesterday from the dell outlet. Overall it was a positive experience, but its not over yet.

When I got the laptop, it was a little bit dirty. It had some specks of something on it that I had to clean with a wet paper towel. The screen looks great and it is pretty speedy, probably be better once I put Ubuntu on it.

I got all the accessories except the laptop travel case, which I am going to call about and see if they can send to me because I would really use it. The exterior is in great shape with no signs (except for the dirt) of use.

There are two problems. First, the left speaker wont play. I can get sound to come out if I gently push on the area, so something is lose or not grounded or something. The second is that the wireless wont connect at all. I even removed my WPA encryption and it still didnt work. Upgraded the driver and nothing. A did a Dell chat with an XPS technician (Sanjeev) and he connected via a Dell branded Citrix and attempted the same stuff. nothing worked. for the record, I have that dreadful Dell Wireless 1490 card

So Sanjeev said he will dispatch a technician which should be coming tonight and Sanjeev himself will also call. I'll let you all know how and if that happens.

Yeah, I don't think you get the travel case when ordering from Outlet. You can try, but they might not send you one.

Bummer about the other two issues, but Dell will make those right for you. There was a guy here about a month ago that had problems with his Outlet notebook, and they ended up sending him a brand new freshly-built one to replace it! Not that you should get your hopes up or anything. :p

Outlet is having a 15% off coupon that expires 6/30. Look into that.

On average, most outlet XPS systems are already ~35% off. With this coupon, your overall saving would be close to 40%. That's <$1000 for a 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, and LED/WSXGA+/WUXGA.
