I have heard that nothing beats the Dell RGBLED display but havent made the comparison myself. Drains the battery a bit though. I, myself, have a preference to always get the 3yr warranty on laptops and might not be a bad idea with the Dell XPS considering some of the issues reported on this site.

Also be wary of which CDs you get with the system. It seems Dell no longer supplies OS CD. Typically people do a reinstall once getting the system to have a fresh install. If you dont have the CD, makes this tricky. i7 CPU is a bit of a power hungry beast. Need to watch out for throttling issues when GPU and CPU are under stress (typically occurs when gaming).

Not an expert on the Sony. So can't really comment.

Oh ... and definitely recommend the 9 cell battery for both systems if possible. 6 cell battery will not last long if you want portability.

Sony gives 2 years warranty and you can by 3 more years. DELL gives 1 year. During the next 2 year I need to prove that it was a factory fault to get it repaired. :(

Recovery Discs need to be burn by the user from the recovery partion.

The the Sony Premium EU screen what I have heard matches the Dell RGBLED, sony uses 2 CCFL for BG light.

The sony have almost no hardware related issues at all. If the CPU throttles during a big render (couple of hours work at 100% load) then I should get the Vaio.

    Sony´s 9 cell battery cost 300$ extra :D

I thought of having a powerpack

I say go for Dell if its service is good on your region & you're ready to face problems if they occur with 1645.

The seems costly to me, 300$ for 9-Cell battery ?? Oh, boy are they kidding ? & the Sony's gpu is too weak compared to that of XPS's. Hope you make the right choice. Let us know :)

I will only be in Sweden during the summer, in fall I will be in Poland for my medical studies. Thats way I need something that works. :)

I do not play games and the Nvidia GPU can be usable in CS5 and in 3D rendering :D

The Dell Studio XPS works perfectly, so I am not sure what the problem is. I was deciding between the F series and XPS just like you, except one year back and when I used the XPS in person, the decision was made. If you look around, you can get some amazing deals or call the sales dept. and try to get something nice. Also from what I remember, it was the F series that had a lot of heating problems where the system even deformed under the heat, so not ever laptop is without its shortcomings, but the XPS has been an amazing laptop so far. I highly recommend this laptop, try going to a store and see if they have it there and play around with it.

I can note find the DELL in a local store :(

The vaio had F11 had heat issues that was solved by a bios update. The F12 have only a high pitch fan noise during medium load. :(
