    Hey guys!

i've been browsing these forums for around two weeks now and i just gotta say love the XPS community here!!! My my old laptop has just died recently (XPS M1330) and my little brother currently has XPS 1647, and he's having no issues.

I still have a very old DELL Inspiron 710m, which im using right now, so there's no real need to buy a new laptop. SO i might postpone my purchase till Christmas or early next year.

My question is how often does or when will DELL's next XPS 16 be will new specs??

    Thanks Guys!!

    Andrew

Well they just put in the bigger 5670 ATI GPU and they have the i5/i7 processors already. I don't think they will be redesigning the SXPS 16 anytime soon but you might get good deals come Christmas time. The only thing they could do in my opinion is put the 5670 ATI with the i7 and RGBLED screen, that would be awesome to me.

I wouldn't hang around for a new SXPS 16, that could be next Summer even if you're optimistic! They could be working on an SXPS 13 replacement, perhaps a 14 inch. But nobody is expecting anything soon!

Christmas time will bring some good deals though!

Yeah, but it'll be at least another 9 months before that happens. Sandy Bridge isn't coming out until November-ish time frame. Their mobile chipset won't be released until Q1 2010. Then the time it takes Dell to start selling them... 9 months at least.

On the bright side, they're supposed to be about 20% faster than current i5/7s, while using the same 45W/35W TDPs.

yeah..that's a good thing about sandy bridge.
but i think i will stick to my current system for the next 3 years

lol..trying to be more economical in spending money :D

Long time to wait for a Sandy Bridge mobile processor though! Are you sure I can't interest you in an i7 while they're still the latest thing? :)

Hahaha Mate i would love one right now, and i configured an XPS16 on the Australian Dell Website for around $1,900. But the real story of my life is that im building a house (with no appliances/furniture) which i get the keys in December this year. Recently engaged and looking to get married late next year. But most importantly... i NEED to get my Home theater sorted out ahahaha.

I think i might have my priorities wrong... but the timing of this beast of a laptop seems to fit in quite well :D

Don't worry, I fully upgraded my home theater before I got my new laptop! One has to have priorities, lol.

Apparently Intel has plans to avoid screwing Sandy Bridge's launch like they did with Arrandale. They are to be be released after CES in early January 2011, the same happened for Arrandale if you remember but we had to wait another 3 months after official launch for them to appear massively on the market largely due to shortages. So hopefully if Dell decides to make a Studio XPS refresh that coincides with SB it would be around january or february next year.

Dell Japan already stop selling Studio XPS 16 since last June.
Maybe because Dell not yet completely solve the throttling issue and Dell Japan decided not to sell the problematic Studio XPS 16 to new buyers?

If I plan to buy a new high performance 15 inch class Dell laptop, I have to choose between Alienware m15x or Studio 15

I don’t understand why Dell don’t redesign the Studio XPS laptops for 2010.
New Asus, Acer and HP laptops look so nice.
If Dell are waiting for Sandy Bridge, it's still is far away.
For 2011, Dell competitors again will launch their new models.
Normally laptops manufacturers will bring new stuff every year right?

Dell tries to keep information about new replacement products secret, because it would be bad for business to say something like "Our XPS 16 is good, but we have a newer and better model coming out in 2 months so try to hold out on purchasing our laptops until then."
