Hi there,
I am a proud owner of XPS1530 with 8600GT gfx card. Ordered in March 2008, delivered on May 2008. After reading lots of posts regarding heat problems with nVidia GPUs in XPS notebooks here I was a bit nervous.
Since I dont play games I was wondering how to stress GPU as much as possible. A friend of mine suggested following application (he told me it loads GPU even more then games do - that's what I was told:
http://freestone-group.com/video-card-stability-test.htm
I let it run for two hours without crashing and GPU temp went up to 78C only. It seems I could sleep well now![]()
This is also my 1st post here and I would like to thank you all for great hints and tips regarding XPS notebooks I already found here.
Thank you...
Martin

If you don't play games then why are you concerned about overheating a gpu?

strange.. with this running for 1.5 hrs, temp' never crossed 67... but with RTHDRIBL temp' get up to 73/74 max... wonder if this is really stressing as much as RTHDRIBL..
and LOL... benchmark gave me 144 and currently the 8600mGT on vista on the benchmark result page in that website is lower... woohoooo...anyway.. I not really sure about this tool though. anyways
thanks though.

fonduekid,
my benchmark result is 146 (CoreDuo 2,0GHz + 8600mGT). I've never heard about RTHDRIBL, will test it today evening and will post result.

lol... so guess I would have to run it again and see if I can better it... LOL..
but seriously, the stability test thing, I am not really sure as I said before.. I think even the nVidia built in stability testing worked well with temp and such.. anyways...
Nice tool for stres testing GPUs
