    Hello all,

    I have a problem with Dell XPS 17 with 3D display (XPS L702x).

    It is a couple of days old.

    When I connect using the HDMI port to my 55" Samsung LCD TV the video is displayed fine by the Samsung TV - but no sound from the TV! ??

    The laptop has the following characteristics:

    Processor: Core i7-2820QM processor 2.30GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.4GHz.

    Memory: 4GB (2x2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel.

    Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit SP 1

    Optical Drive: Blu Ray combo drive (reads Blu-Ray Disc & writes to CD/DVD)

    Display: 17.3" (44 cm) FHD 3D WLED TL (1920x1080) 1080p with 2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera

    Video Card: 3GB NVidia GeForce GT 555M Graphics Card - 3D Capable - driver version 8.17.12.6830

    Sound: Realtek HD Audio Manager with Waves MaxxAudio & Andrea Microphone Technology

    Sound: Realtek High Def Audio - driver version 6.0.1.6312
    & MS High Definition Audio Device - driver version 6.1.7601.17514

    Blu Ray/DVD player software: CyberLink PowerDVD9.6

    I had Dell Tech support spend about 2 hours with it yesterday - downloading/installing drivers.

    The TV seems to connect and disconnect ok using Windows 7, for duplicating the PC Display on the TV, as video - the problem is that I don't also get sound on the TV at the same time ?

    If I go into Windows 7 Control Panel, and select Sound - under Playback it displays:

    4 x Digital Audio (HDMI);
    1-4 - High Definition Audio Device;
    Not plugged in.

    1 x Speakers
    Realtek High Definition Audio
    Default Device

    1 x Realtek Digital Output
    Realtek High Definition Audio
    Not plugged in.

    Dell Tech Support seem to think that replacing the motherboard might help (presumably because of the "Not plugged in" status) - so are going to arrange for a replacement motherboard.

    However, I have been in a similar situation to this before with Dell, and I suspect that the same will happen with a replacement motherboard.

    Please - is their anyone here who recognises this situation and can advise me as to what to do to fix it - or give me a link to some advice that has worked ok for them in the past?

    Many thanks.

    Go in to the nVidia control panel, then go to set up Digital Audio. Click change windows sound settings. Your TV should be listed under nVidia high definition audio. Click configure and choose your sound set up, then finish. Should be working fine after that. I have my XPS hooked up through the amp, to the tv which then pushes out 5.1 sound depending on the source.

    What are your options for -->

    When you have the hdmi connected to the T.V......Usually you have to change the default device from just speakers to whatever shows up as your connected device(mine is also a Samsung 3D LED and shows up as Samsung)

    Thanks Risco,

    When I click 'change windows sound settings' under Playback it displays:

    4 x Digital Audio (HDMI);
    1-4 - High Definition Audio Device;
    Not plugged in.

    1 x Speakers
    Realtek High Definition Audio
    Default Device

    1 x Realtek Digital Output
    Realtek High Definition Audio
    Not plugged in.

    I think maybe the 'Not plugged in' bits might be a part of the problem?

    Thanks.

    I have listed the options.

    I've just powered down tv and laptop - then powered up tv then laptop - and it still comes up with the options that I have listed. - with every 'option' except the Speakers saying "Not plugged in" - so possibly 'inaccessible' ?

    Bazzz3,

    It's kind of reassuring that you seem to have it working with yours - but I have a 3D screen and graphics card - I'm not sure that you do? Maybe this 'explains' the difference?

    Thanks.

    Dellboy99

    ps. The laptop has a 3D screen - but the Samsung TV is a 55" normal 2D tv.

    The not plugged in is defo the one causing the issues. I suggest updating the nVidia drivers directly from them. I believe the 280.26 are the latest, let me know if it fixes it!

    This is how mine looks when plugged in.

    I also have the 3D screen and Graphics card.I might suggest as mentioned above,to try update your graphics drivers on the Nvidia site.Try the clean install option.

    Did a non-clean install of 280.26 - and the screen blanked and the system seemed to hang up.

    So then did a clean install which seemed to finish ok.

    But now it seems that the Nvidia control panel no longer has a set up didgital audio option.

    When I go into control panel /sound/playback tab I now have

    1 x Speakers
    Realtek High Definition Audio
    Default Device

    1 x Realtek Digital Output
    Realtek High Definition Audio
    Not plugged in.

    Risco - I not on your screen shot you have your tv at the top - but also your last item in the list is also Not Plugged In - like I have?

    Sorry I didn't get back to you guys before - I didn't get a notification email from the forum...

    Any other ideas?

    Hello,

    I know that thread is really old, but i decided to post reply for anyone i can help.

    I just solved my problem (the same as in Dellboy99's post). It was exactly like his one. There was few devices called "High definition audio device" tagged as "not plugged in" and the only one active "Speakers - Default Device".

    I have installed newest drivers directly from Realtek website, than opened Nvidia control panel, changed option on GeForce 555M to play sound on my TV (mine is Sharp - but choose yours) and its fine now :) of course that option is active when TV is connected so do it first :).

    Here you can download Realtek HD Audio drivers from Realtek website (mirrored to US site)
    HTML:
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
    I have choosen that one "Vista, Windows7, Windows8 Driver (32/64bits) Driver only (ZIP file)" from US east coast mirror (fastest connection)

    Please forgive me my english, and don't shoot to the polish guy ;p I hope my post will help. Cheers!
