I just got off the phone with two Dell reps, looking to purchase an XPS M1330. I asked whether there would be any upcoming hardware refreshes around June-September (during which Montevina Latitudes will be released). Both said there will be no major hardware changes to the XPS for another year, and that this would be a good time to buy an XPS. That means there will be no Montevina XPS.
Does anyone think this is truly the case or is this just another example of sleazy salesmanship?

Salesmen don't know jack.

Seriously don't rely on what they say. When I'd considered the M1330 in the past I'd ask if a 15" version was coming out and was told no (came out about 90 days later) and if the Penryn update would be out within a year & also told no. Both of course were wrong. The sales team usually doesn't get info on things until very close to the release date.

I wouldn't say it's sleazy since most companies are hush hush when new products are going to get released. Apple is famous for not saying anything until a product is ready to be shipped out the door.
Why would a DeLL sales rep want to hurt the companies sales by having you put off a sale? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense if your trying to sell products.
My suggestion is to wait until the new latitude laptops arrive and see if in fact the XPS line gets a component refresh which commonsense would say that will be the case. -
I think the sales person was trying to get you to buy a laptop now. I mean serious "this is the best time to buy an XPS"? WHO says that? If it was true, they wouldn't tell you either because only the marketing departing gets to mess with statements like that.
Also, Montevina is a pretty big change that's gonna happen, and everyone knows that every laptop company's gonna jump right at it when it comes out. I mean come on, Centrino -> Centrino 2, you don't see that happen everyday. So yea, the sales was full of s...lies. -
I figured, why wouldn't a company's flagship line get updated. I guess I'll wait it out. Really hoping the XPS line gets updated to Montevina and gets a 9000 series discrete graphics. Depending on the price point, the new E series looks interesting, although there is no discrete option for the 13.3 inch.

Its crazy to think dell wouldnt slot in the new chips in their premium line as soon as possible. They arnt like apple, where they have the luxury of holding their entire user base hostage because of proprietary software.
I would expect dell to adopt the new chips less then 1 month after they hit the market. That said, i doubt they'll do an entire re-design... Course someone told me that when i asked about santa rosa going into the XPS M1210...
No XPS refresh for another year?
