I just got my 8700M SLi M1730 and I only have one problem with it. If I start the computer unplugged it will boot into Vista Ultimate with a blank lit display.
I can hear the sound of Vista starting up and so forth. It responds correctly but I believe the driver has an issue.
I've researched the subject only to find mixed results. I've tried 6 differrent drivers- only to have the same issue. I've installed Dell's recommend power settings, etc. I think this is because I'm running it in SLi mode but whats the point of a gaming laptop without the gaming mobility.
Could someone tell me where to download Driver Cleaner Prof? The links I've found are all broken. I need a working driver as well. Someone help please!
Thank you in advance, av0

On another note, my M1730 says no Physx processor is installed... I thought it was standard! Is it inbuilt in the GPU? Can I buy it? It doesn't show up in device manager either at all.

its software driven. ou need to download the driver.
i use laptop2video -
AFAIK its not an issue with the right drivers, but it could be it..Give it a try and see if you get any progress?
As for drivers; you can either use laptopvideo2go.com or use DOXs customized drivers (which I perfer) found here: hosted.filefront.com/DoxLV2Go
Side note about drivers: if you use any of the two above mentioned websites, you will need a modded INF file to install them on a notebook. You can find the modded infs from laptopvideo2go.com. If you feel you want official notebook released drivers go to nvidia.com/ati.com and pick the right graphics card from their drivers drop down menu
As for driver cleaners, simply google "GURU3D driver sweeper". -
Guru and MG have broken links for the driver cleaner...thats why I've asked you.
So there is no driver without this issue. In any case my computer can start on AC and be left on battery after boot up. This tells me it has plenty of energy. Someone needs to fix this -
i have the same issue with my new XPS 1530. It does not boot up when it's not connected to an AC power adapter. But it works fine if it's plugged. What seems to be the problem?
Please help me to resolve this. thank you for your help. -
my friend's m1730 is having a problem booting into vista unplugged. rather than not displaying the screen, it just won't boot up fully unplugged.
what size battery do you all have who have the problem?
EDIT:
when he first received the machine, the notebook worked fine while booting into the battery. does anyone know if microsoft had an update for vista recently? -
I had the issue where my xps m1530 with LED LCD screen would boot fine on AC power but on the battery it would boot but with no back light on the screen. weather you were going just into your BIOS or Windows. You could here windows boot fine (could here the startup sounds) and if I put a flashlight on the screen there was an image. but no back light.. anyways I got a new battery and everything is fine now.. turns out the battery has a separate contact connection for the back light.. and my battery was defective. I knew it was the battery since it would run my back light if it was warm or I warmed the battery up... dell sent me a new battery been using it for a few weeks now with no issue..
Also after my laptop was on for more then 4 min running on the AC and I went the the battery it was fine. It was just when the battery had not been used for more then 5 hours or more I would have the problem.
No display when started without AC adapter M1730
