Hello everyone, I regularly read the boards here and the threads helped me make my decision about buying a XPS M1530. I ordered the laptop but from talking to Dell Support through the online chat system, it seems like the slot-load DVD drive is unavailable on the XPS M1530's from now on, they said the only way I can get a slot load drive would be by buying the Blu-ray drive. This is all from Dell Canada ( www.dell.ca) by the way.

Also they stated that I won't be getting the soft case, headphones or microfiber cloth. I was really going to get the Studio 15 but decided against it because gaming was the whole reason I wanted to pay this much for a laptop but I wont get a back-lit keyboard and slot loading drive now.

I was just wondering if any of you have heard about this no slot load option, I found out about the missing accessories from some of the posts made on the Msg boards. I would really be thankful if someone could help me be able to wriggle out the slot load dvd drive and the free accessories from Dell Canada.

that doesn't make any sense... why would they randomly redesign the XPS like that for no reason? I think he was giving you BS.

slot drive is the ONLY drive that fits the m1530 chasis...

so they're asking you to order one without a drive, but with an empty space inside the laptop.... hmm, how much weight woudl that shave off? :p

Sounds like BS to me too. I bought mine a few months ago, got slot, and all the extras. Try to talk to another rep (but don't mention anything about this rep saying no more slot-drives, etc) and see what they say.

I asked three different reps. One over the phone when they called to confirm my order, and twice over the dell chat system. When I ordered it, I was thinking the same thing the slot load is the only drive that would fit, so that is why I wasn't worried. Let me try once more today.

either that person who you talked with is trying to con you to get something more expensive, or they haven't seen an 1530 before, or they are just plain stupid... one of the main points of the 1530's design is a slot load drive

    here's what's on the 1530 description page:

OK. Update, i believe phy is right all 3 dell reps i talked to seem like retards, all they had to do was search for the part no. Here is my dell xps m1530 cd configuration that comes up for my order.

    8X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R [313-5820][420-8183]

Upon using google for both the Part no.s i reached the following thread on the forums.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/archive/index.php/t-250670.html

And upon matching the part no.s it seems like I have the slot load drive too. Now all I have to do is try to get some of the free accessories.

    -8X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability [Included in Price]
-Slot Load Blu -ray Disc (BD/DVD/CD read/write) [add $550 or $14/month1]

Those are the options they appear to have on the Canadian site. I could've swore that before they both said slot load, so I don't know. This could be true.

The options on the American site still appear to have both listed as Slot Load. Maybe this is just another way for Dell to rip off us Canadians.

EDIT: Now that I look at my order, it doesn't say slot load. I'm expecting to get my laptop within the next week, so I'll let you know what's going on with the optical drive once I get it.

I was just going to say that the Canadian site does not say slot drive whereas the US site does. This could be an explanation as to why the reps said it was a regular drive; if they were looking at the site they would have seen the listing as a regular drive. Have you tried to phone up any tech support reps? God knows they can be less than perfect (I am being diplomatic) but I would hope that they would have the correct information (fingers crossed). Anyway, ultimately you will know when it comes and, as you said, it can go back if you don't want it. That would be too bad though and I hope it comes with a slot drive for you. BTW, out of curiosity, why is the slot drive so important to you?

I just think the slot load drives are cool, I might keep it when I get it though. Also just in case you guys were wondering the Fingerprint reader is not listed in your order too when u order us xps from dell canada. I have talked to 3 different reps about this too and 2/3 said it comes with fingerprint reader. the fingerprint scanner is not so important to me but this is really bad on Dell's part atleast keep your website up to par if your own representatives are incompetent and really don't seem to care about the problems.

On a lighter note can someone suggest me a good laptop sleeve or backpack since the laptop I am getting does not come with a sleeve anymore.
