I tried to search but couldn't find anything. This sounds like a dumb question. I just got my 1730 two days ago. I leave it on all the time and the case lights stay on. My wife is complaining that it "looks like a glow in the dark bat". I tried looking in the manual and control panel but can't find anything that shows if you can turn off the "bling" lights on the case.

I like it and all, but it would be nice to turn them off without turning off or hibernating the machine.

By the way, what a awesome freaking machine! I love the keyboard, the display, just a solid nice computer.

Start Menu -> search for "Quickset" -> in "Dell QuickSet" go to:

System -> Gaming Options -> at top-right corner untick "Enable back wings and badge panel LEDs" -> Apply -> OK

Just look for Quickset in the programs. That'll sort out all custom options.

EDIT: Dang beaten by seconds! Second time that's happened recently.

Krypto, you can also turn off the 'bling' via the BIOS. Keep in mind there are essentially two types of lighting...

    1. Pre OS lighting - This is controlled by the BIOS and up to the point Quickset is loaded by Windows.

    2. Quickset controlled lighting - Lighting effects implemented by Quickset and controlled via the Quickset LED Effects GUI.

Example: In the BIOS you change the speakers and trackpad to light up RED. Using Quickset you set the speakers and trackpad to GREEN. Upon turning on your laptop, your speakers and trackpad will show RED and as Windows begins to load, they will change to GREEN.

So, the purpose of my long post is basically to point out, that in order to disable the 'Glow in the dark Bat' look, you will need to not only turn off LEDs in Quickset, but the BIOS as well. ;)
