I am on the verge of buying one of these. Tomorrow, to be more precise.

I just want to know a couple of things:

Does M1530 come only in CCFL display (in UK)?

Does CCFL display lose contrast and sharpness after a year or so? (I have read somewhere on this website that it does)

What is your opinion (both M1330 and M1530 users)?

Now, I don't need a fancy graphics card therefore I don't really care about 8600GT but I do care about having a good screen.

I am sure someone will be of great help.

    Thanks in advance.

Same screens but just in different sizes as far as I know (if you get the CCFL version M1330)

You can upgrade to the LED display in the M1330 only and it costs £80 but you don't get any increase in resolution. Still a lowly 1280 x 800 which is enough for most people on a 13" but 1440 x 900 would be better imo.

Plus no it isn't true that a CCFL display will lose contrast and sharpness after a year or so.

As a side not the M1530 w/ 1440 x 900 has an awesome screen anyway. You only need LED if you want the miniscule difference in weight and power consumption. They don't actually look any sharper imo as they are still a reasonably low resolution.

    The LCD is brighter though!

Don't get one over the other based on the screen. Look more at the general weight of the machine and the size. Will you be moving it around a lot etc?

If you get the 13" I would get an external monitor for when you are at home so as to get a better resolution. The 8400M GS in the M1330 is fine if you don't plan to play any games!!

I totally agree with basskiddany. CCFL screen doesn't lose the brightness over a year or so. I can't really comment about LED on M1530, but I do compare my screen with LED on M1330. I don't see any different on both screens. I found out the my M1530, which has AUO, is bright as much as LED screen on M1330.

Whatever basskiddany talks about the graphic card, I am totally agreed.

By design, CCFL tubes will degrade over time but this takes quite a while. Also, upon start up they will slowly get brighter as the tubes warm up/stabilize and then slowly drop back down. However this will not be noticeable by the naked eye, you will need a photmeter to see the difference.

LED backlights are the way to go though. Generally higher luminance and lower power consumption as they do not require inverters. They are also more uniform.
