i just got my xps m1530 and on of the common problem that i have heard is that of a keyboard buldge. My question is how big/noticeable is this bulge, because i think i have it? And how do i fix it?

i don't really think it's a mistake. I think that's how they are designed, everyone i've ever heard of has it. Plus it's more ergonomic. I think it would suck if it were perfectly flat.

If it's a huge bulge then the wiring under the keyboard could be messed up but I wouldn't worry about it. I like it in mine.

The Evening I got my ASUS G1S, I couldn't help but notice what I consider to be a large bulge in the keyboard, especially noticeable on the bottom row of keys. I spent the entire evening scouring the web for people with the same issue, but didn't find any, I even zoomed in on photo's of the G1S to see if they had the same bulge. None of them had. All I could find were reviews complementing its' build quality.

That was 5 months ago. In those 5 months, the bulge has changed in my view from being a "serious unacceptable build flaw", to a "hardly noticeable characteristic".

    I'm not resentful.

I suppose you could return it, but may end up with one with the same problem or another less noticeable, but more serious flaw, plus returning it will somewhat put a dampener in the whole experience...

Of course when something's new, you treat it like your life depends on it, and yeah, when you've spent your hard earned money on something, you want it how it should be, but after a while, it probably won't be such a big deal.

I have had three 1530 pass through my hands in the last month or so, and none of them had a keyboard bulge. Remove the keyboard and reroute the wires if it bothers you.

    Good luck,.

Mine has no keyboard bulge just to let you know. I don't think it's normal, but it might be slightly common.

I have a noticeable bulge in my m1530's keyboard - it's especially apparent if you look at the F-keys. I'll get around to fixing that myself one of these days, once I summon the courage. Another option would be to call a techie out here since we've all got the at-home service deal, so I'll consider that as well. It's not bothering me too much, but seeing as fixing it would make this a completely perfect laptop, I'm inclined to do so...

It does seem common, and I don't think it is going to hurt anything...just kinda odd looking.

See this thread. Dell could have put the wrong length screw.

I had it in the 1330 I purchased from the Dell Outlet... I'm not spending a grand on something with a weird looking bulge in the keyboard! It's not picky, but it's a good chunk of money and I want what that money is worth. I returned it, and now am waiting for a new xps M1530 to be built... better luck this time for me maybe?

The keyboard can bulge if the wires underneath it aren't arranged properly.
Some people managed to fix their own keyboard by removing it and making sure the wires underneath weren't stacked on top of each other.

If your keyboard bulges, check whether it's hitting your laptop's screen when you close the lid. You may want to use a lappymat or something similar to protect the screen.
