I downloaded a tool that shows me when my Nvidia card is on and active, and I noticed that whenever I'm watching Flash video in google chrome the GPU turns on and turns back off when I close the tab with the flash plugin active. I was wondering two things:
1. Why is the GPU turning on for something like Flash? I'm sure the Intel graphics can handle flash.
2. How do I get it to stop without disabling the GPU for chrome entirely? I just don't want it turning on whenever I watch a video on youtube or whatever.

Right click the flash and disable Hardware Acceleration ?

Leave flash enabled.
It use to happen to me, my nvidia gt540m use to kick in when it detected any flash content within my browser, even though the integrated Intel HD3000 can handle any movies and flash upto 1080p and only use a fraction of the power of the Nvidia GPU.
You just have to tell the Nvidia driver to only use the integrated gpu when you start your browser.
Watch the video`s in the link below, it will show you how to specify what gpu is used with what application.

Try adding the Flash executable to the list in the Nvidia Control panel and setting it to integrated GPU.
Directory is --> C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash -
On firefox, u can separate it by setting the plugin container to integrated.
Btw, why you would like to run Chrome on Nvidia? I mean then Chrome already using Nvidia graphic in the first place? -

Ok. So I finally decided to disable the Nvidia GPU for chrome, and it's still on. Anyone know why that might be?

Just installed chrome, and the nvidia gpu kicks in as soon as you play a video in youtube, if you right click on the chrome icon on the desktop and see which gpu is default it says integrated? , so i right clicked the chrome icon and selected change default graphics processor, and the nvidia control panel opened up and shows chrome as gpu automatically selected, so i forced chrome to use the intergrated gpu, make certain you click appy , i works for me.
