well ive had my M1530 lappy for almost a year now (Jan 15 2008). I bought it equipped with a 8400gs...since the reason i bought it for was photoshoping "on the go"
...not knowing that i would be doing a little gaming here and there later on.
so on with the question...
I want to overclock it so i can get a reasonable amount of performance increase but not to the point where my laptop is ready to melt.
Now ive tried overclocking with ATItool (artifact scanner), Rivatuner, and the new nvidia laptop drivers...the clocks seems to be locked and will not move >:l
ive been playing tf2,cs:s and been getting an "average" fps count (around 20-25 ish with low-mid setting /bloom on)...i was hoping to get around 30 ish.
specs:
-C2D 1.66 ghz t5450
-200gb hitachi 7200 rpm (upgraded from 160gb 5400rpm)
-4gb dual channel ram (upgraded from 2gb)
-Vista Ultimate service pack 2![]()
any help would be much appreciated thanks

hmm Try Different video driver mate either from Laptopvideo2go.com or the latest public release from Nvidia (179.28)
-
-
You need to install the NVidia system tools
This adds the overclocking possibility to the NVidia control panel! -
anyone wanna give me their 2 cents -
*bump* ^_^
-
anyone? D:
-
Try 169.04 for overclocking.
Its the last OC'able drivers for my 8400 gs -
another question...when i overclock my card will it still declock when im not using any graphic intensive program?
-
as far as declocking not to my knowledge it will basically idle any way good luck
-
If the gpu is not being used it will downclock back to the standard clocks. It will only use the overclocks on intensive use.
Check GPU-z if you like. -
well after trying to get the best speed possible and temperature...i got the following results:
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/dgnsc/
no artifacts on atitool and i played TF2 @ 1280 x 800 midsettings 30-40fps.
thanks for the help
edit: temps did not go above 73c degrees -
Set the Memory clock 50mhz lower just to be safe. Theres no thermal monitor for the video memory, just the core.
-
will do. do you know if the gpu memory has heatsinks by any chance?

Nor does it have a temperature sensor, hence the dangers of overclocking it. -
oh i see. good thing it declocks when im not using it.
And when "george" does die im gonna replace him with a new 13" studio xps(when it does come out :/ ).
my t5450 isnt cutting it anymore. When i have 50 or so pictures open in photoshop, playing music,15 firefox tabs open, windows messenger live,skype,pidgin...i can hear it cry D: -
Upgrade it to a T8300, it will be much better.
-
upgrading will be useless since the gpu isnt upgradable...just gonna wait for the new studio xps'
OC'ing my M1530
