hey folks, one of the main reasons for being so happy with the xps 15 was cuz the subwoofer and chassis didnt rattle/crackle anymore as we knew it from the sxps 16/or studio 155x models. now after my keyboard has been replaced cuz the old one broke it suddenly appears to have the very same issues like the previous models. its really annoying especially when talking over skype(using the loudspeakers) and watching movies and stuff. especially frequencies of low pitched mens voices seem to affected and that sorta makes the whole chassis around the subwoofer rattle and shake and cause some very ugly sound distortions. i really had hoped that dell would have actually fixed this issues finally but obviously they didnt.

just for the info: i reinstalled windows 7 ultimate again and installed all the latest drivers offered on the dell xps 15 download site. problem is still there...

if anyone is willing to try it out, just install skype and try calling someone: the calling sound causes really nasty cracklings and vibrations at already 40 to 50 % volume...

    thx

Main variable is that "the keyboard was replaced" before this started, so I am thinking the problem is stemming from that. It is possible that the Dell tech. didn't tighten some screws well. If you are experienced/confident enough, open up the bottom panel of the system (if that's how it's accessed) and tighten some screws and see if that helps. For a system which excels at sound, and an area that Dell advertises for the system, I'd be really surprised if it was the same problem that plagues the SXPS 16. Also you might be the first one that I've seen complain about this, making it more likely that the keyboard repair caused this.

If the screw tightening doesn't work or you don't want to do it, call Dell back out to fix it. The tech. can be rough with/not care enough for the customer's system sometimes, and they end up breaking stuff or not reinstalling it correctly. Good luck.

Please let me know how things turn out. My XPS 16 is rattling and I was hoping to replace it with the xps 15. I hope this is not a general problem...

The spacebar key vibrates if you apply gentle pressure with your fingertip the annoying rattle should disappear.

Someone posted a solution on how to fix it which included removing the spacebar and putting some isolation tape on it, but I haven't got the courage to remove the key - scared of breaking the clips.

my girlfriends xps 15 501 has this subwoofer rattling issue as well! and according to her it gets worse and worse... especially the skype ringtone and certain deep, sonorous voices from movies and voice chats are making it rattle and crackle like hell!!

cud this be cuz the subwoofer is bouncing against the cd drive or some other component? it could be also related to a keyboard change, cuz it somehow all began when her keyboard was replaced due to some faulty keys i guess...

very very annoyong, anybody knows a fix for this?

Replaced the original xps 15 l501x keyboard with backlit keyboard from studio 1450 and the problem disappeared.
