Hey folks, my DVD drive is non-functional, so I downloaded the recent driver for it from the Dell site (8/19/2008, DJ06, A02). When I tried running it I got an error stating "You don't have administrator right to process or No device is recognized". Which is weird as I'm the local admin on the machine.

Dell XPS M1530 Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

    Thoughts folks?

right click, run as adiministrator... even though u are admin, the UAC kicks in and does not let the appplication run.

Resolved...apparently there was a registry issue with something that I installed (according to the Dell rep). He sent me a .ZIP file with the corrected registry values (CDGone.zip). Double-clicking the CDGone.reg file (contained in the .ZIP) added the relevant information to the registry, and all's good now.

    Mmukalian-

I am having the same issues you report. I would very much like to avoid calling dell support if possible. Would you be willing to send me the .zip file you received. Or if you know what registry settings were changed I could manual run the fix.

    thanks,

    Bryan
