Just incase I provided the wrong links people can doubelcheck versions & compatabilities, last thing i want is me screwing up someones Xp installation!

Many say the 1330 XP drivers work fine with the 1530 as they are the same hardware with the exception of the PCMCIA card that does not come with the 1330

This Guide on Dell Community is very helpful
    **IMPORTANT**
Some in dell-community forums have said that you MUST leave bluetooth enabled BEFORE you format to XP otherwise you cannot turn it on. Mine is off, however i do not have any bluetooth devices to test!

    ADDED DEC.13-

** GOT QUICKSET TO WORK WITH XP & M1530**
I got Curious as to why i could not install quckset. So i went searching, and read this int he Readme.txt File.

I just used the Latitude D830 R165094.EXE that someone mentioned however i am sure it would work with the m1330 driver.

Quickset For m1330 XP driver http://ftp.us.dell.com/app/R163012.EXE

Basically this will skip all checks windows version does & install it anyways behind everything.

    For Advanced Users Only:
    ------------------------

    Silent Install Option

QuickSet is installed via an InstallShield installation program and thus has the ability to be "silently" installed through the "-S" command-line switch. QuickSet includes an .ISS file in the distribution package for customers who wish to perform silent installs. Example: "SETUP.EXE -S".

    Custom Installation

QuickSet can be installed with a subset of features by choosing the "Custom" Setup type and then selecting only those features you require. For silent installation, a custom .ISS can be generated by using the "-R" command-line switch. This option will launch Setup, allow you to choose your preferred installation options, and will store your selections in a new SETUP.ISS, created inside the system's Windows folder. You may then replace the SETUP.ISS file included with the distribution package with the new customized version and use it to repeat that installation on other machines. Example: "SETUP.EXE -R".

I just finished updating all the drivers & utilities for Dell XPS M1530 for Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit (All Versions). Every link, driver and utility is verified, tested and working. Copy and paste the links in your favorite download manager and your drivers & utilities are ready for installation at one shot.

I spent about a full day of trial and error and testing drivers out there until I got things working right on a brand new XPS m1530. Some XP Drivers from the XPS m1330 did not work right so I had to hunt for the right drivers. I can now say I have successfully installed Windows XP SP2 on the m1530.

Unfortunatelly I did not keep track of the urls where I found the drivers but I did save all the necessary drivers for it. The drivers and related programs that work with them total about 180mb.

    The System:
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7500 (2.2GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache)
Genuine Windows® Vista Home Premium Edition
Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1280x800) & 2.0 MP Camera
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
    200GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
    Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write)
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card

Despite of the good processor and memory I noticed Vista was in fact slowing things down so almost immediately I "upgraded" to XP.

After I installed XP things just got super fast. Audio and Video run perfect.
I also tested the video card with Bioshock, running at high settings - it looked amazing and worked perfectly. The DirectX10 option on the actual game however was disabled.

I would recommend this laptop to anyone, it is just an amazing great looking system. If you need help installing XP SP2 on your new m1530 send me an email.

    2 things were untested though:
    - HDMI port
    - S-Video Out

The Wi-Fi catcher seems to work fine too, although to be honest I am not sure if it really is working 100% right. The button turns blue and sometimes orange... whatever that means. I probably won't be using that anyways.
The remote that came with it and all the playback, sound and media direct buttons also worked 100%.

Any emails or comments about this post are welcome.
Good luck to all and happy Holidays.

Do I need to install all of these drivers (for vista) rather than using the driver disk dell provides or are these basically whats on the disk itself?

The driver disc provided by Dell has old drivers and utilities. The one on this webpage is collection of all the latest drivers for Dell XPS M1530 from concerned websites like Dell, nVidia, Intel & LaptopVideo2Go.

So if you are interested in the latest drivers which has been tested to work without issues, download all at once from here. If you are okay with old drivers, use the Dell's driver disc.

Guys, sorry for this most basic of questions...what is the quickest way to update the drivers? Do I need to uninstall the current driver or can I just click on the "update driver" button in hardware properties and direct it to the file location? I did update the bluetooth drivers and it was a long process of uninstalling via MS software uninstall and reinstalling...thanks

It is best to uninstall all traces of the old driver/utility before you install the new driver/utility. Additionally it is best to reboot the computer twice before you start the installation.

Although in most cases you can just install the latest version of the driver/utility over the old one without any issues but I do not recommend it.

When stating problems please clarify whether or not they are XP or VISTA to help troubleshooting & keep posts down.

I stll have yet to test XP TOuchpad drives, they locked up my windows start page last time..

Surprisingly i use the fingerreader lots for websites that have 10+ digit passwords. Windows Login is great for it!

For Video drivers do Manual update driver via the System Properties

You will be selecting the 8600M GT card, you may have multiple there to select that are exactly the same, i selected the last in the list.

Get Winrar - it is great at extracting exe files that extract themselves to temp anyways

The Beta driver was provided here only for the sake of making the list complete. I do not recommend you use it if you don't know what it is for.

Thanks to kanadianiceman I have now a location for you to download the XP Drivers for the XPS M1530

    M150_XP_Drivers_Part1
    http://www.mediafire.com/?7hwmn4yfjw2

    M150_XP_Drivers_Part2
    http://www.mediafire.com/?f52jzgdv1ln

You should have the Media Direct CD Program iin case you want to start 100% from scratch.

If you have any comments, questions or perhaps suggestions on better drivers, etc please let me know. I would like to help anyone with the xp installation process if necessary.

As I said before, everything worked 100% ok for me. You may experience something different but again, questions are welcome.

*update* Before installing XP I went to the BIOS and disabled SATA support, you may not need to do this depending on your windows xp cd.

I know what a BETA driver is and I know what to it is for. But neither your normal and the BETA driver allow me to install it for my 8600M GT as it detects there is no hardware supported by it...

I don't what's wrong with your setup but all drivers work without any issues on our new Dell XPS M1530. Please ensure you don't have any traces of the old driver/utility before you install.

Anyways, if you want, here is an old but Dell provided video driver:

I used your method Kanadian. But Timeshift says my drivers are outdated. Even though it looks amazing maxed out with 4AA at 40 FPS average. I'm impressed by the performance of this after some tweaking. It runs COD4 on max at a solid 30.

M1530, 2.4GHz, 3GB RAM, 8600M GT and Turbo Memory FTW!

    @ubnyan,

Is your M1530's gaming performance better in XP,compare to it in Vista?

I got mine last week.So far,my M1530's gaming performance is bad.UT3 can only run at 2 for world detail and texture detail, out of 5.A similar spec desktop can run the same game on 5 with both setting, without any frame rate drop other than when there is water.

So,im thinking of "upgrading" mine to XP for better performance.

    @visionz_,

Are you using XP on your M1530 too?

Hi, To be honest I never installed any games while on Vista, but I did run Bioshock on XP at the highest setting possible and it run really great.
*update: I also run Need for Speed ProStreet (DEMO version) at the highest settings possible on XP, worked 100% ok.

I did post 2 links to download all the XP drivers I used on the M1530 in case you need them.

You have posted in the wrong thread. This thread only deals with Dell XPS M1530 Manuals, Drivers & Applications.

You need to ask the question at Dell XPS M1530 Owner's Lounge: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=187778

for formatting to XP I did not use direct media so i just formated the OS drive. That is, i still have the Backup Partition & Direct Media Partion in tact.

in the end if you want to go back to vista you have all the cds you want.

you can format & repartition the drive and wth the direct media CD & Vista OS CD you can go back to what dell gave you.

To intall with the XP cd either slipstream the sata drivers on it or change the option in the BIOS.
Without doing either the slipstream sata drivers or BIOS option you get NO hdds detected

If you have a dell XP cd, it has the sata drivers on it and you can just install using that, DELL XP PRO cd is best bet as no cdkey required & sata drivers are onit

Use the Media Direct CD ONLY if you want to start 100% from scratch.
From my own experience installing XP on the M1530 in MD must be installed first (assuming you have a formatted hard drive with no partitions).
    1. Start your laptop with MD CD inside. Install MD Partition software, follow the CD Instructions to partition your hard drive the way you want.
    2. Start Laptop with Windows XP, install it on the partition not used by MD.
    3. When XP is done, install MD Software (I did that after installing all xp drivers though)

    Hope this helps.
Let me know if it worked fine for you.

Is that for XP? Where can you download it? Also, where can you download these SATA drivers for the XP install?
