M1530 will be released anytime now. Be the first to write your opinions when you get the system!
Dell will send mine once they start shipping. The configuration I am getting is similar to : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=186323&highlight=M1330+good+deal
-
Ummm, I don't think you can configure it yet there good buddy!
My contact at Dell (who has been the only good thing out of my 1330 fiasco) was pretty tight lipped when asked about the 1530. Employees that know about the system are under NDA's so, just out of curiousity, did someone at Dell let you configure one or something?
The only thing he could tell me is it is VERY close to coming out and I can exchange my 1330 for one....
Either way, I plan on doing a mini-review when I get mine and this will be the first place I'll post it -
I will not be ordering anything online or over the phone. Dell will automatically configure M1530 similar to my returned M1330 and ship it. Yes, I'll get the system only when it is made available to public. I may not be the first one to get it, but I'll definitely be one among the first batch.
However, for my friend, they will send him an e-mail when M1530 will be available and he has to then call and order. -
Ok, I see.
However, I am not sure what country you are in BUT I wouldn't just assume that they are going to build one for you and send it (that definitely does not sound like Dell).
If I were you, I would definitely follow up with them upon it's release..... -
-
The chance of anyone being granted an upgrade for a m1330 is one in a million. There is a very simple reason for this and that is that the M1330 is not an end of line system. In fact, the M1330 is deemed one of Dells great success stories.
The only situation in which Dell does grant a system upgrade is for 'end of line' situations as was my upgrade to a M1330 from a M1210.
The next thing that must be considered is...who you have as a contact. There are only very specific people that can approve this in Canada and the US. They are so few you can count them on one hand and they are the unquestioned final authority on any system upgrades.
Good luck all...and most of all use your common sense. Never trust in ones word and even if they put it in writing, you still shouldn't believe it until you have it in your hot little hands. -
So when is the release?
-
My conversation is with a Resolutions Manager. Nevertheless, I have my doubts too! -
K..Im trying to explain Dells internal policy. They cannot hold onto your money, as you explain, and upgrade your system. You will find that once your system is returned, your money may be forthcoming as well and hopefully 100% with no restocking/shipping deductions.
For Dell to do what your resolutions manager has suggested, the M1530 would have to be out already. The manager technically could never even have said that to you as it is a huge confidentiality breach to even speak of any system in Dell that has not been released yet.
As for when the 1530 will be released, that would have to occur now...after a third internal delay at Dell and on time at the present 'before Xmas' planned date which is not public knowledge. -
I think only the release date and available configuration is confidential. No one at Dell denys the existence of M1530.
M1530 parts are already out and can be bought:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A1317368
Just call/chat and ask for M1530. They'll try to interest you in M1330 first but when you insist they'll acknowledge they can't talk about it yet and offer to e-mail/call when it is available for sale. If you push further, they'll tell you that it is similar to M1330 but with better options.
I was told the earliest I could expect was around November 17th. If it gets delayed, I suspect the next date would be during Christmas. -
Flamenko,
For sinstoic's case, I see your point and I don't see how they are doing that for him.
My case is different and my contact at Dell has done enough for me to believe him 100%. The difference for me is that I am holding on to my current 1330 system that I recieved a couple of weeks ago and, once the 1530 is released, will get a system exchanged with the 1530.
My contact has already cleared it with his boss. It's funny, because I had asked for a refund and he was very adimant that he could get things fixed for me. So, I asked him if I could just get an exchange with the 1530 and hopefully have better luck with it and he assured me that wouldn't be a problem.
I will let you guys know what happens in the next few days..... -
I can't keep the notebook as it isn't functioning. I was forced to return it.
-
Did Dell come to your house and make you pack it front of them?
I don't understand how you were "forced" to return it.... -
Sleey0
The release date for the M1530 is December...What will occur in your case is that they may tell you that the 30 days has expired.
Im trying to explain that your rep was either misquoted or is not aware that he or she cannot do that. There is no CSR that can nor is there a CSR supervisor or Resolution conflict group.
People don't like hearing this but it is the truth. There is a very small group of people that are designated for this specific occurrence and only they can approve it. Presently, the only way it can be approved is for 'end of line'.
I saw it stretched for a XPS 1710 but, lets be honest...thats on its way out as well.
Further, by the time it is released in the case of yourself Sleey0, you will be outside the 30 day exhange period which again causes another issue in its own.
Im giving you the info through not only personal experience and far to many hours spent talking to Dell about these things, but also from a guy who makes a call when he is unsure of something and gets the answers to his questions first hand from well above the CSR and resolution level.
Am I trying to say your wrong? No. Am I trying to show that you might want to tread carefully with the info you receive because you will be outside the 30day exchange window...Yup!!! -
There was no point in I keeping the notebook, it gets hot and windows crashes. I tried doing a fresh install but to no avail. -
Just ordered a M1330 yesterday after hearing in the rumor mill that the M1530 would not be out for a while.
Without knowing the specs, the M1330 is really what I was looking for. I needed something small, lightweight, and beefed up for the road. Battery life was also a big factor. I just can't imagine a 15" being any better suited for my needs, but if is really that good, I should still be within my time period to return the M1330 and get the M1530. I'm guessing my M1330 won't be delivered until Thanksgiving or shortly thereafter. -
Flamenko,
I am WAAAAY outside of my 30 days, but that is not stopping me from getting this resolved. I understand that you don't think it is possible, and that is fine. BUT my contact is no ordinary CSR from Dell, nor is he a "resolutions manager".
I am not disclosing more on here because, quite frankly, I don't think I should be discussing this here. You can PM me if you want more info but I don't think you really care, do you? -
Actually, it interests me from a knowledge standpoint. I try and keep abreast of everything and this area is one I have been very involved in with several people. I have assisted alot behind the scenes and at different levels within Dell...right up to Lionel (lol)
If you have a high level contact, by all means keep it to yourself. Please let us know how it goes in the end from an honest standpoint. I would be very interested in the final result. -
Will do, flamenko!
-
Got a call from Dell, XPS ONE on November 19th, 2007. M1530 may be delayed!
-
Dell called up. M1530 will be released before Christmas and the delivery will be in January. I decided to accept the refund.
-
Interesting, someone on the Dell IdeaStorm site says that they were informed by a Dell rep that the M1530 would be out by the 23rd Nov. Maybe Dell will at least post some info on it for the 23rd otherwise lots of potential Christmas buyers will go off and buy another notebook not realising an M1530 is coming out.

Ummm, we already know that it's coming out. So, unless you have a configuration webpage link or some release dates, don't bother posting useless links in 256 different languages.
Thanks.... -
-
Those links are worthy?
Ok, I guess a small blurb on Dell's website without any specifics as to release, specs, etc is now a worthy link. Enjoy that...
Just google M1530 and you'll get way more info than that garbage posted at Dell.com -
those are the first pics I have seen of the so call M1530. I am really interested in this note book and appreciate the extra little information people throw out there.
-
You can download the service manual for the M1530 here
http://www.sendspace.com/file/w0goco
It has plenty of pictures of the laptop and its interior, but some seem to be for a prototype.
Also, some of the information is not accurate. -
-
Don't you still need to have a Dell customer number to register?
Fine if you've already bought a laptop from them, but if not... -
Is this direct link helpful? -
The links to the various languages that talk about the M1530 no longer work - the main positive from them though was that the M1530 depicted looked just like a bigger M1330 rather than the prototype in the service manuals that had a white keyboard and white border around the display, it also stated that its weight was 'slightly' heavier than an M1330 so hopefully around 5lbs with a 6 cell battery and LED backlight.

Thanks again Velman for finding that. -

Here is a data sheet for XPS M1530: http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/corporate/environ/inspiron_xps_m1530.pdf
It claims m1530 weights 2,8kg witch sounds realistic to me. -
-
I'd still consider it if battery life is good. The dimensions remind me of my old Travelmate 800...

Nothing new in this case..only 8600 (256mb) and cpu..and no LED-screen
-
It's now released I guess, and configurable in some countries. Interesting to note that the screen options are specifically labeled CCFL, indicating the possibility of an LED option in the near future.
-
Available for pre-sale at Dell USA: http://www.dell.com/content/product...b_m1530?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~tab=bundlestab

No LED screen option, no t7800, no 7200rpm drives on the higher end ones, seems to be quite bulky too. Mixed with a 4 week lead time, is making me lean towards a base m1330 with 3rd party ram/cpu/hdd.
-
Maybe in the UK... Here in the good-ole' USofA there are options for T7800, 7200/SSD, blu-ray. I guess OEM suppliers aren't quite ready with 15.4" displays yet which is ok with me. Rather have a tried and true CCFL than an LED display that MIGHT be ok (I have had so many problems with shi**y CMO LED displays and haven't been that impressed by them anyway).
