The buldge in the black panel at the top of the keyboard was merely because they did not snap it don properly. I do, however believe you may be correct in that for the keyboard bulging up a bit around the number 7 key, and at its highest point on the F7 adn F8 keys. Barely noticable but I noticed.

Quick reply on #2 - I received a 3-prong adapter, and have no shock issues. :) You are correct that the problem was limited to 2-prong adapters. Sorry for the confusion.

MrM1, I can't remember seeing if you got your bluetooth to work so I thought I'd ask. I just wiped the OS partition and reinstalled with Vista Ultimate x64. Thought i'd try it out for a bit assuming I could find drivers for everything. Bluetooth was detected automatically. First time it booted up, I already have a bluetooth logo in the systray. Vista x64 had the drivers built-in for the Dell Bluetooth 355 device. I didn't try a fresh install of 32-bit yet, I'll be getting to that shortly (yep, i'm bored so i'm loading each OS to see what I can and can't get to work)

The 1680 is a LOT smaller. You won't like it. I'm a photographer and webmaster and the 1440 is perfect for me.

I have that. Barely noticeable. Especially if I pack it in the notebook. I use thick poster paper between the keyboard and screen when I pack it.
    How does one correct it?

Yea I got it fixed using the patch for downgrading to XP ???? But it worked and when I installed the driver all was well.

But I did not like the total package of the reinstall, so before I got the PC loaded up with software and docs I decided to reinstall again.

The 2nd time I made sure the WiFi/Bluetooth switch was on (I did not know it was off in the 1st reinstall). Well in the 2nd reinstall, it went perfect ... PC is really fast and everything recognized first time.

I am still fighting that Windows Vista Update KB292777 (a recommended update for Vista 32 bit users using over 3gig of ram). It wil not install. But I turned it off so at least update is not telling me to install it.

You are telling me what I thought. Sounds like You and I spend our days doing similar things ... and smaller than a 1440 would not be a good thing. I am going to leave things as they are rather than trying to complain for an upgrade.

On my new XPS 1530, I have tried to remove Mcafee and all the crap associated with it. When it first loaded up I refused to install it and it said it would uninstall itself, I also used Add/remove programs to remove it.

But, when I check Windows Security Center, and click on "Firewalls" it says that "Windows Firewall and McAfee Personal Firewall both report that they are turned on", under Virus Protection & Spyware it says that McAfee VirusScan is turned on.
Can anyone help me remove it completely? Can't find any files with McAfee in the name. I really don't want to have to reformat (I've already added 30gigs of media to the hard drive).

    The laptop runs flawlessly otherwise!

    Hello..

I was wondering if anyone has a lower than normal sound when playing DVDs on Real Player or WMP for their XPS M1530? Sound is good.. when playing videos, music, or DVDS on Media Direct Player.. but when playing DVDS on Real Player and WMP it's really low..

Was wondering if anyone else is having that problem..

    Thanks.

If you are using Vista you might want to check the volume for those applications. Vista has a volume control for each running application.

The webcam takes poor quality pictures and video. Mine worked when I first got it and I wasnt impressed. Two months later I tried to have another go but the Webcam Manager gives a message 'no camera detected' then 'plug in camera to start'. Can't ficx it and tech is coming out today to renew webcam hardware.

Tech on phone in India thinks its a software problem and wants to do a factory reset. Once tech has eben today we will see who is correct. My money is on me!
    Regards,

    Is this Common?

I just noticed my HD light is blinking quite a bit. And the HD runs a lot. There does not seem to be much "rest" there. Is this common in Vista?

No sound when I plug in the HDMI cable from the laptop to the Integra 8.8 receiver (which is connected to a Sony 70" XBR2) I have tried playing BR discs and also the standard dvds but there is no sound when I use media direct. Any ideas? The picture is fine but no sound.

Hey, does anyone know if the m1530 (specifically with a core 2 duo t9300 processor) is compatible with a 64-bit os? The support people at dell don't seem to think so, but I thought that all dual core processors could handle a 64-bit system.

    Maybe I was wrong?

EDIT: nvm, I just looked at the link in the above post. :/ Dell support should know better.

FYI for thoe who are still worried about screens i have 2 m1530's next to me one is my bosses brand new one and mine. He has a samsung screen and i have a LG and they look pretty much identical.

He got it yesterday. The one thing I will say is, the viewing angles arent as good, but I mean you really have to move your head into a position you never would when using a computer to notice it anyway.

Just throwing that out there if people were worried about the samsung screens. They seem to have fixed the problem.

To fix the sound problem you right click on the sound thing in the task bar, go onto Playback devices and change HDMI to default. After that, restart any applications that you wanted to use sound from.

What's the difference between Dell's Media Center and Vista's Media Center besides Dell being able to boot w/o starting Vista?

Anyone have problems with File Sharing between XP and Vista Home Premium?

my guess is those samsung panels that were bad was just 1 factory batch. I mean realistically its possible the same thing can happen to the LG panels. But i had them side by side and had my boss not had a few extra icons on his desktop i wouldnt have known which laptop was mine.

i think dells is not called media center and that button is for office apps i believe. MS media center lets you stream audio/video through other sources being a set top box or a xbox 360.

    Hi,

I just rec'd my new M1530 and absolutely love it and its overall performance. The only software that does not function smoothly is Apple's iTunes. While songs and videos play fine in iTunes the program interface itself is slugish. For example, scrolling thru either album artwork or the movie cover art is EXTREMELY slow. My basic system is listed below. I see no reason why the hardware should be the issue. Do you think this is a Vista issue? Any suggestions? All other programs perform impressively well even Adobe Premier.

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB, 3MB Cache)
    Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
15.4 inch Blue Wide Screen WSXGA+ TrueLife LCD
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
    64GB Solid State Drive
    8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT

    Thanks,

    Joe

    yeah...he's got a point

scrolling through the cover art on my mbp is pretty snappy

i'm gonna try installing a windows version under vmware and see if it's a problem (I don't remember it being an issue on my old XP desktop but then again, it's been a while since I've last used it)

Well, just ordered an almost "fully loaded" M1530:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB, 6MB Cache)
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
Full Hi Definition, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1920x1200) & 2MP Camera
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce 8600M GT
250GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor
    Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
    Slot Load Blu-ray Disc (BD/DVD/CD read/write)
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition
    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card

Anyone else crazy like me and order the 1920x1200 screen? :D

Hmmm, I have my notebook for less then a week now and suddenly an 'abnormal pixel' appeared on the top edge of my screen. It's constantly blue ... (When the screen is dark, it's realy noticeable and somewhat of an eye catcher) What is that and more importantly, can it be fixed ?

Man, this sucks, I'm compelled to ask Dell to replace the screen just for that 1 pixel, but I have an LG screen now and don't want them to change it into a samsung one ... : /

    What should I do ?

Does Dell have a dead pixel policy? I know alot of custom notebook builders can make you pay extra for a 100% guarantee of no dead pixels, whats Dell's stance on it? Is one dead pixel enough to warrant replacement? (believe me.. if I had one, I'd be calling them immediately, but then again I've not seen what you guys are referring to between LG and Samsung quality... i have the 1920x1200 Samsung and its the only brand offered for that resolution). A Dead pixel to me would drive me insane, especially on a new notebook. My vote would be to call them.

Hey Brian, can I ask how the clarity on your screen is? Does it have the slightly sparkly texture on a white screen (google.com, for example)?

I'm still just trying to get a feel for if all of these Samsung WUXGAs are similar quality or if there are better ones out there. I'm planning on returning mine, so I'm trying to figure out if it is worth trying a replacement or not.

    Thanks.

I'm going to have to say yes, although I'm not "entirely" sure what you mean. I went to google, and it obviously is all white, the screen does have a very slight, if you look at it really closely, sparkle to it. Very even across the whole screen. just to make sure White was white, I opened up MSPAINT as its default is pure white for the backround and I see the same thing. Honestly I didn't really notice until you said that. Thanks alot! Now I'll see it all the time. haha

Again, I may be seeing something different than what you are describing, its hard to say without comparing side by side.

Just got mine a few days ago....trying to spend some time with it tonight.

I am not sure what screen I got, but I am happy with the quality. I am not going to bother trying to find out which screen I received, because it will just play with my mind.

So far no dead pixels....but they usually show up after some time, from my past experience.

Overall happy with my first laptop. =)

I just need to test out some games, and clean out the bloatware that came with the computer.

I'm getting my Midnight Blue XPS M1530 on Tuesday/Wednesday!! *YAY* Check my specs out below:

    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz T7250 800MHz FSB
    RAM: 3GB DDR2 (1 x 2048MB 1 x 1024MB)
    Hard Drive: 250GB HD
Wireless NIC: Intel Next Gen Wireless-N
Bluetooth: Dell Truemobile 355 Internal Bluetooth Module
    Battery: 6 Cell Li-ion
    Optical Storage: Slimline DVD Writer
Display: 15.4" TFT WXGA Trulife Display (1280x800)
Graphics Controller: 256MB NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT
    OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Overall, a pretty bundle. Not top spec, but not the lowest either. It suits me down the ground. It's also my first laptop!! WOOO!! It'll also be primarily for university work, so generally, I think my bundle is pretty perfect for me.

Has anyone else got the (annoying) 1280 x 800 screen? Is it as bad as I seem to think it is? I just wanted more pixels to play with, but they didn't offer me a choice. Is that standard in the UK?

    *grins* Can't WAIT!

I wish the higher res was available when i bought mine. More screen space is nice and you can always make the dpi higher if you have trouble reading the text. im still very happy with the 1680x1050 resolution though.

I'm a 1024x768 man myself. Yea it's kinda large, but i can see it.

I don't set this new 1440x900 to that, too fuzy. But the zoom in IE 7 even at 125% makes this screen require a bottom scroll bar for this forum. :(

But with these new wider screens, I think I may need to redsign my own web site. It is not set to 100% .... So it now centers on this 1440x900 with about 2.25" of margin on either side. But who uses 800x600 anymore? ;)

You'd be surprised at how many still use the 800x600 still. I'm a webmaster and run a forum and find older folks like that resolution as they see it better.
A lot of older folks, (50's and up) are on the internet now. These folks are the baby boomers of the 50's-60's and have a lot of money to blow. I run a few Corvette websites and a Corvette forum and they are in that age group.

    Hi,

iTunes works perfectly on my desktop but it is running Windows XP. Must be a Vista thang.
