I wanted to add that I have nothing to do with the Airdesk company. My only connection is that I purchased one of their desks.

    Regards,

Ok, so I got my second M1530 yesterday (first one had a stuck pixel on it, so I returned it)

This one doesn't have any dead or stuck pixels and the colors look great, except that it's a samsung screen and I got massive light bleeding from the bottom of my screen, all the way up to the center. Seriously, the bottom of the screen is always noticeably more lit then the top. And in the dark with a black picture, the bottom of my screen is just white all the way up to the center. (note: my frst M1530 had an LG screen and that one had alot less light bleeding, so I was able to compare both screens)

Can I call up dell and ask them to replace the screen ? I realy hope they will, else I'm gonna have to get it replaced AGAIN and wait another 3 weeks minimum for my notebook. (I'm getting a bit pissed at dell for always supplying malfunctioning products)

Also, I got the next-day on site warranty, can I ask them to come and replace my screen the next day ? Or is that not part of the warranty ?

I gots my M1530 on Monday and I'm quite impressed. Only issue I have is the lovely sound of a hard disk head clunking rather heaving when the drive goes into power save. Really metallic clunking sound when the head tries to park. Hasn't actually cause a problem yet but already on them to replace it. Bad disk head is no fun.

Otherwise, lovely LG screen, 8600GT oc's like a trooper so TF2 is a go and I am a very happy camper.

    Hi,

It is DEFINITELY not cheap. It is a very stable, rigid platform. Consider that the Base alone is 20" in diameter and weighs ~14 lbs. It is made of solid steel and is thin enough to slide under any furniture. The center column is thick wall steel tubing and very rigid.

Well, my M1530 is the first laptop I've ever had (I'm 19) and I can truthfully say I'm not sure anything would be able to beat it!! At least, definitely not for another few years.

Not to mention it's the nicest keyboard I've ever used on a laptop.

Joe... ignore the ones who say negative things. There are a few of them here.

That stand looks like a cool idea for a living room next to your chair or couch.

I have to aggree with you I love mine and I've had it for almost 4 months now.

Another really cool device I use with my M1530 is the Mogo Mouse from Newton Peripherals. I was amazed at how well it worked and it was comfortable too. It is very well made and its lithium iopn battery charges in the laptop's X54 slot. If there is any downsize it is the price point. I thought it well worth the price considering its portability.

    Just got my M1530.
I ordered it on Bank Holiday Monday (UK) and got it on
Thursday. I was impressed with the quick delivery, but then noticed
I got it with the crappy SEC3157 screen. Phoned up Dell and asked for a replacement (specifically the LG) the guy said he would have to speak to his manager and then said they would send a tech out with a new LG screen.
Checked the dispatch and found the part number to be for the whole panel
so i won't know until its done if i managed to get the LG.
Overall thought its a nice machine.

    T9300
    2GB's of ram
    320 HD
    1440x900
    8600M GT
    Product (RED)
    all for £799!

I've had my M1530 for about 4 weeks now and it's great! Only problems I ran into was upgrading to SP1 (I had to download some updated drivers so that it would pop up in Windows Update) and I got a BSOD twice (I found out it was an issue with the Razer DeathAdder driver, so I fixed that as well).

I was lucky to have gotten an LG screen. It was also properly assembled with no keyboard bulge or anything. I'm very happy with it.

OK, I can officially post in this thread now.

XPS M1530 arrived today at around 11:45. Been playing with it for about 5 hours.

    Specs:
    Midnight Blue
    T8300 2.4 ghz Penryn
    Geforce 8600M GT
    4 GB
    250 GB 5400
    Intel "N"
    WSXGA+ 1680x1050 Display (Samsung)
    Bluetooth
    Vista Ultimate

I also got those bluetooth stereo headphones because I watch a lot of movies on my notebook. They seem to work just fine.

Fit and finish seems good. No bulging keyboard or other issues like that. I did get the Optiaric optical drive that I've heard people complain about, but I don't notice anything particularly loud about mine. It does have a Samsung display and I was concerned about that, but it looks fine to me.

    So far so good.

I'm not on my notebook right now or I'd tell you. This has been asked a LOT so if you use the search feature on this forum, you'll find it. ;)

Be happy! I've had mine 4 months now and I'm extremely happy with it.

There is a LOT of hype on that samsung screen. Most are good... some folks read it's bad so they think they have a bad one too, kinda like a mirage. LOL

    Enjoy your XPS :D

Go to device manager, expand Monitors, right-click Geberic PnP Monitor and select Properties. Go to the Details tab, and from the dropdown box select Hardware Ids.

SEC3350 is the Samsung display. Not sure how the LG is listed.

I don't think I need to explain how serious this problem is. Anyway, I called up Dell, spoke to a real friendly guy, who was aware of the issue with samsung screens and emailed him these pictures. He even promised he would try to replace my screen with an LG one, if they are in stock ^^

Here's an update. My order sheet did not say anything about SP1 and when I looked at the Dell website yesterday, it said Vista Home Premium SP1. So I called Dell; and sure enough my OS did not have the SP included in it.

So I cancelled the order and reordered. On my original order the salesman had promised overnight delivery. But he didn't include it on my spec sheet and did not return my calls or emails. So my re-order also included that.

Dell used to have great sales people who did what they said they'd do and returned phone calls.

Hi. I just got my xps1530 today and am very happy. I wanted to format the notebook and install XP on it and read the very informative guide to install XP with slipstream before I bought the notebook. I followed the directions exactly and burned the bootable CD. However after I boot my computer from the CD I got the following message after a few minutes in the XP setup

"setup could not read the cd you inserted,or the cd is not a valid windows cd."

Can somebody help me please? I want to start using my computer right away. Thanks in advance.

OK,so I have some new information. The XP setup doesn't recognize any previous versions of Windows and then doesn't read the cd as a full version of any xp (home or pro). I also tried to install it using Udi's explanation (Changing to ATA in BIOS). But even though I used the original XP cd I got the same errors. So I thought that maybe someting was wrong with the cd and tried to install it on another computer and it worked withouth problem! That makes me even more afraid that I won't be able to install XP on my XPS1530 at all . Somebody help please, I am really desperate here. Thanks..

Make sure the CD drive is working correctly, and make sure the CD is perfect. Obtain a fresh/different copy from someone else if need be, I'd recommend this.

Some of the slot loading drives in the M1530 don't like reading old or scratched CD's. I'm assuming you have already changed boot priority in BIOS so the CD is first.

But yeah something is wrong with your CD or drive from what I can see, what you mention hasn't happened to anyone to my knowledge.

are you trying to do it from within vista? i dont think you can install XP over vista within vista. I think you have to boot to the cd and install XP from the cd on boot.

sounds confusing :) hope you understand what i ment.

    Hi.
I am going to be buying an m1530 sometime soon but have one question:
Does the 1530 come with the sleeve, noise cancelling headphones etc. in every country that you can buy Dells in?

What I mean is I've heard of some people not receiving those extras, just because of where they live, and I am worried that I will have to fork out more buying them separately after I've bought the laptop.

    Thanks

    Neon

Yes, it comes with the sleeve, noise cancelling headphones etc etc in every country only if you are ordering a brand new customized laptop.

If you are buying from the Dell outlet or any kind of refurb from Dell, you won't get them and will have to fork out money for those.

A lot of people get them with refurbs, but a lot don't

I wonder if the ones who don't get them, don't get them because the original owner didn't return them?

That would be a VERY jerk move. They have barcodes for every single thing including the headphones, remote, etc. I think Dell would easily know if the remote wasn't returned with the package since they scan each and every item that comes with the package before they ship it out in the first place. You never know.

I hope they wouldn't be reusing used headphones and cloths.

When a replacement unit is sent, do they send all new accessories, batttery, and such, or just the system itself?

Well according to Greg they don't and only replace with refurbs, but from my experience... they build it VERY fast within 4 days and ship it out. Mine was brand new and had all the acccessories and everything that came with my initial order.

If your replacement is sent within your return period you will receive a brand new unit. After your return period is over it is possible you will get a refurbished unit.

think about it. within 6months the new chipsets will be out in the dells anyway. and from what ive read the XPS line is going bye bye all together desktop and laptop. and alienware is taking over the XPS line and those inspiron 1535s ppl have been seeing those will be the new XPS line laptops only called "inspirion style" or something like that.

so it would be impossible for them to build another brand new unit for u in yer warrenty period if they dont make that model anymore :).

Received my laptop - and i couldnt be happier. The machine is gorgeous. The screen, while it IS a Samsung, it does not have backlight bleed or any grain whatsoever. I will probably wind up upgrading the processor and hard drive but for a business machine with balls, this thing rocks. I couldn't be happier.
