    Hey!

Since the other SXPS 1640' threads were getting *rather large*,...

And, the i7 Processor is *brand new* and turbo...charged! :p :D..

I thought it would be easier to just start a new thread for *new owners*, *potential owners*..as such!! :D

    Oh, right now
...you can get the i7 for $1249 w/$100 Gift Card and Next Day Shipping...I made a thread in the Tech Bargains Section of the forum..Here is the LINKY.

    Have with it! :)

Helpful Order Information (which can cause confusion) regarding the screens: Thank you, ikjadoon (Ibrahim) ;)
<s>On most people's orders, it says WLED, even if they got the RGBLED. This should save some double-posts.
These are ALL RGBLED, screens! Part Numbers:
    320-8335
    320-8341
    320-8332</s>

Edit to the above (as requested by Ibrahim) 10/15/09... Peep's this really should clear up any confusion.!! Thanks Ibrahim ;):
"Dell is having some issues with their invoices, particularly with monitor choice. If you ordered the RGBLED and it says WLED, don't worry: you still have the RGBLED, it is just marked incorrectly. Some users who ordered the RGBLED have these part numbers:

    320-8335
    320-8341
    320-8332

If you would like a confirmation (just to make sure they didn't REALLY mess up), please call Dell at 1-800-999-3355. Extension 2169173/2169174 is for the Jaguar Sales Team (great people), but they may not always be available, so if they aren't, just go through the regular phone prompts."

ALSO.....PLEASE KEEP this Thread limited to Discussion of The 1645....ANY Order Status, Updates, Inquiries....Should be Posted Here:
You can also post when you ordered, etc! :D

Estimated ship date is November 2. Next business day shipping of course.

I'm really excited about it. First thing I do when I get it is swap out the hard drive and install windows 7. Not even going to boot it up without Windows 7 :). I can't go back to Vista! I won't!

I know! I've been using Win7 since the RC, and it is such an improvement over Vista. I never had a problem with Vista, and actually liked it. But now when I use a computer with Vista or *gasp* XP I think "eww".

Thanks for creating a new thread for the 1645, it is definitely needed. But more importantly, thanks for the links in the first post, Cin!!! Once I receive my SXPS in a couple of weeks, this thread will be my first stop. Off the top of my head, the only thing that you might want to add is the RGBLED settings thread.

it definately was on dell uk's site this morning (i still have it open in another window!) but it's gone now, i hope it's because they realised it was so expensive they are gonna work out a deal for it. I really want it but the studio 15 with 6gb ram is so cheap on dell uk's site that it is very tempting as well.

    Cheers.

Sometimes I hate the Dell website, didn't think to look under xps deals :(

Specced up with a 820QM and RGB screen - £1,898.99.

Looks like others are doing the 820 QM for a much more reasonable price (£128 upgrade).

Does anyone know how accurate the estimated shipping date is? im hoping it will be earlier than the 3rd of november as it shows now.

I wish Dell puts a 4830m or 4850m into this laptop. If they upgrade the CPU they might as well upgrade the GPU.

Canada just doesn't have the population to get the mass volume for lower prices unfortunately (I feel your pain since I'm from Canada too). The XPS has a very small chance of getting the HD 4830 but pretty much 0% chance of the HD 4850 since it is not designed for gaming and Dell doesn't want to cannibalize their Alienware sales.

Well, it wasn't one this afternoon when I checked. Strange. Only 2 WLEDs available at that time.

EDIT: You're right, now its there. Oh well.

My current laptop seems to be on its last legs (Vaio VGN-S460 1.73Ghz single core processor) and since this site has been a great resource in my search for a new laptop, I might as well throw my 2 cents in. Order placed 10/6 and my delivery date is supposed to be 11/9 and got the following specs:

    Studio XPS 16 Notebook
    Intel CoreTM i7-720QM (1.6 - 2.8 GHz 6M/8 threads)
    4GB, DDR3, 1333MHz 2 Dimm
15.6 inch Wide Screen 16:9 900p HD+ WLED LCD, W/2.0 MP, XPS 1645x940 (couldn't justify the price of the RGBLED)
ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4670 1GB
500GB 7200RPM Free Fall SensorSeagate Hard Drive
    BluRay Combo Drive
    Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi MB
Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card
    DW 370 (USB module)

and the 2 year accidental damage warranty.
Total cost, including sales tax was $1,481.05 through EPP

Am I correct in thinking that since I'll probably get the computer and my Windows 7 upgrade disk at about the same time, I can reformat the hard drive and do a clean install right away? Would I lose any of the included Dell drivers? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but when I replaced the HDD on my current laptop, getting the necessary drivers from Sony was a big PITA.

Yeah you'll be able to do it right away. I plan on doing something like that also. And you will have to reinstall the drivers, though Windows will get most of the drivers set up for you. From what I've read, you'll still need to download some drivers (the ones Windows didn't catch) from Dell. The first post has links to those drivers. If for some reason the Windows 7 driver for a specific part isn't there, using the Vista driver should be ok. But it seems like by the time we get our laptops, they'll have all the Windows 7 software ready.

That sounds good. Like I mentioned, when I replaced the HDD in my current laptop, I couldn't find a few of the drivers, so the shortcut buttons and Fn button don't do anything anymore. I'd be extremely unhappy if I ended up with a similar situation on a brand new comp.

Make sure you download the network card drivers (or WiFi car drivers) so Windows can connect to the internet and do it's thing!
