Helpful Order Information (which can cause confusion) regarding the screens: Thank you, ikjadoon (Ibrahim)![]()
<s>On most people's orders, it says WLED, even if they got the RGBLED. This should save some double-posts.
These are ALL RGBLED, screens! Part Numbers:
320-8335
320-8341
320-8332</s>
Edit to the above (as requested by Ibrahim) 10/15/09... Peep's this really should clear up any confusion.!! Thanks Ibrahim:
"Dell is having some issues with their invoices, particularly with monitor choice. If you ordered the RGBLED and it says WLED, don't worry: you still have the RGBLED, it is just marked incorrectly. Some users who ordered the RGBLED have these part numbers:
320-8335
320-8341
320-8332
If you would like a confirmation (just to make sure they didn't REALLY mess up), please call Dell at 1-800-999-3355. Extension 2169173/2169174 is for the Jaguar Sales Team (great people), but they may not always be available, so if they aren't, just go through the regular phone prompts."
ALSO.....PLEASE KEEP this Thread limited to Discussion of The 1645....ANY Order Status, Updates, Inquiries....Should be Posted Here:

My 1645 is supposed to ship on Oct 26. I can't wait =)
-
Grat's on your purchase!
I linked the drivers in my first post, if you happen to need them..there are 3..The Bios, Win 7 64 bit, Vista 64, also! And, some other helpful Links..I will add others!
Cin... -
Awesome, that's really helpful. I'll be sure to check this thread regularly once I get my baby!
-
Estimated ship date is November 2. Next business day shipping of course.
I'm really excited about it. First thing I do when I get it is swap out the hard drive and install windows 7. Not even going to boot it up without Windows 7. I can't go back to Vista! I won't!
-
Hi dchan07
Can you post your artic white sxps
want to compare between artic white and merliot red -
I'm sure it will ship before the ESD..that is usually overestimated, anyways! Ohhh you will really enjoy Win 7...it pretty awesome! Once you go to Win 7...you don't wanna go back.!
Cin... -
I know! I've been using Win7 since the RC, and it is such an improvement over Vista. I never had a problem with Vista, and actually liked it. But now when I use a computer with Vista or *gasp* XP I think "eww".
-
-
I never used the RC..I just went straight to Ultimate!
Lulz..I have XP on my Mini 9...
Will you please share some screenshots / pics when you receive your 1645??
Cin... -
Thanks for creating a new thread for the 1645, it is definitely needed. But more importantly, thanks for the links in the first post, Cin!!! Once I receive my SXPS in a couple of weeks, this thread will be my first stop. Off the top of my head, the only thing that you might want to add is the RGBLED settings thread.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=382939 -
And, I added the RGBLED thread! That was a *fussy* thread...wouldn't let me imbed the linky
Oh well. its good as it is..!
Grat's on the impending arrival of your XPS also! WoOT!Can't wait to hear of your feedback!

-
AT LAST!! dell UK has the i7 one
-
Thank lirp!
Wasn't expecting it to show up on the UK site for a while yet!
Edit: Hang on... I don't see it, can you send me a link? -
Though it as quite expensive! and the 820qm is still a rip off sadly, bloody Dell. -
-
Dell UK is much more expensive than Dell US
why?
from 720 to 820, 410 pounds, while US 350 dollars... not fair.... -
it definately was on dell uk's site this morning (i still have it open in another window!) but it's gone now, i hope it's because they realised it was so expensive they are gonna work out a deal for it. I really want it but the studio 15 with 6gb ram is so cheap on dell uk's site that it is very tempting as well.
-
Guys does this come with a backlit keyboard?

Anyway here is the link for core i7 lappies on dell.co.uk

Thanks Cin for the thread. I was disappointed in my M15x and am looking into another laptop at this time. I will definitely keep watching this thread.
-
Anyone know what expected battery life is suppose to be? Or did I miss this in another thread?
-
Is the ATI card equipped with DDR or GDDR?
-
Sometimes I hate the Dell website, didn't think to look under xps deals
Specced up with a 820QM and RGB screen - £1,898.99.
Looks like others are doing the 820 QM for a much more reasonable price (£128 upgrade). -
-
Sorry, about the M15x not working out for you!
I think, you would have good luck with this one!
Dell UK 1645 Linky added above!
Oh, bonus for all of you that have access to Dell's EPP Program...Good Deal on the 1645 right now I believe you can get it with a 2 year warranty /4gb for around $1301 + free shipping...I have to check my EPP e-mail, again..and will provide further details!
Cin... -
I got my XPS 16 for a great price. I ordered mine with the i7 720QM cpu, 4GB DDR3 1333 memory, 500GB 7200rpm HD, Bluray burner, bluetooth, 16in RGB LED display for $1459 via the EPP program. I placed my order on 9/25.

-
Omg, You get those lappies basically for FREE in the states! We have to pay $1000 more for the same config in UK
-
-
LOL Dont complain... im in Canada. I think DELL hates us most as were right next door and they charged me $2553 incl tax. AND our currency is almost at par! I did get a few upgrades though.. my config is below.
Does anyone know how accurate the estimated shipping date is? im hoping it will be earlier than the 3rd of november as it shows now.
Studio XPS 16 Notebook
Intel ® Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
HD+ Widescreen 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1680x945) W/2.0 MP
ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 1GB
256GB Solid State Drive
Obsidian Black High Gloss Finish with Leather
Slot Load Blu -ray Disc (DVD/CD read/write + BD read)
Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi MB -
I wish Dell puts a 4830m or 4850m into this laptop. If they upgrade the CPU they might as well upgrade the GPU.
-
Canada just doesn't have the population to get the mass volume for lower prices unfortunately (I feel your pain since I'm from Canada too). The XPS has a very small chance of getting the HD 4830 but pretty much 0% chance of the HD 4850 since it is not designed for gaming and Dell doesn't want to cannibalize their Alienware sales.
-
Why isn't the 1645 available with the 16" RGBLED (in Canada at least)
-
it is.. or at least it was an option when i ordered. Just checked and i see it there.
-
Well, it wasn't one this afternoon when I checked. Strange. Only 2 WLEDs available at that time.
EDIT: You're right, now its there. Oh well. -
My current laptop seems to be on its last legs (Vaio VGN-S460 1.73Ghz single core processor) and since this site has been a great resource in my search for a new laptop, I might as well throw my 2 cents in. Order placed 10/6 and my delivery date is supposed to be 11/9 and got the following specs:
Studio XPS 16 Notebook
Intel CoreTM i7-720QM (1.6 - 2.8 GHz 6M/8 threads)
4GB, DDR3, 1333MHz 2 Dimm
15.6 inch Wide Screen 16:9 900p HD+ WLED LCD, W/2.0 MP, XPS 1645x940 (couldn't justify the price of the RGBLED)
ATI Mobility RADEON HD 4670 1GB
500GB 7200RPM Free Fall SensorSeagate Hard Drive
BluRay Combo Drive
Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi MB
Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card
DW 370 (USB module)
and the 2 year accidental damage warranty.
Total cost, including sales tax was $1,481.05 through EPP
Am I correct in thinking that since I'll probably get the computer and my Windows 7 upgrade disk at about the same time, I can reformat the hard drive and do a clean install right away? Would I lose any of the included Dell drivers? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but when I replaced the HDD on my current laptop, getting the necessary drivers from Sony was a big PITA. -
Yeah you'll be able to do it right away. I plan on doing something like that also. And you will have to reinstall the drivers, though Windows will get most of the drivers set up for you. From what I've read, you'll still need to download some drivers (the ones Windows didn't catch) from Dell. The first post has links to those drivers. If for some reason the Windows 7 driver for a specific part isn't there, using the Vista driver should be ok. But it seems like by the time we get our laptops, they'll have all the Windows 7 software ready.
-
That sounds good. Like I mentioned, when I replaced the HDD in my current laptop, I couldn't find a few of the drivers, so the shortcut buttons and Fn button don't do anything anymore. I'd be extremely unhappy if I ended up with a similar situation on a brand new comp.
-
Make sure you download the network card drivers (or WiFi car drivers) so Windows can connect to the internet and do it's thing!
