So after 25 days of building I am finally getting my XPS M1530. First, I would like to know what are some of the first preperations for my laptop? This is my first laptop so i'm not familiar with first neccessary steps. I know that the battery needs to be treated a certain way or it wont reach its full potential. Please give me some advice! Thanks.

    Congrats.

Nothing big to do, per se..

First check for manufacturing quality, and the OS components and functions.. make sure everything is working fine.. the ports, touchpad, screen, media buttons etc etc..

Second, you dont have to do anything with the battery.. Li-ion batteries DON'T need the 'breaking-in'.. they work right out of the box, work very well and most of the time the battery comes fully charged.

Otherwise if U prefer Vista, first use it and see how it is.. and u can find a lots of threads on vista performance enhance tips.. and better to start with Les' sticky before checking out the others..

Else if u wanna change OS, again there are threads with tips on how to go about it... so don't worry... and all drivers n stuff can be found hhere on NBR..

    Have fun with ur system.

I wish I had known about that laptop guide before I got my 700m. I screwed my battery up so fast. Not that it matters since I never took it anywhere there wasn't a power plug and I generally did things that drained the battery. Still would have been nice to use as a movie device though :(.

yea their bags are pretty good, targus, etc... they arent the BEST, in fact, theres a lot better out there. i invested in a backpack since i need to carry my books for class and its a bit more discrete in terms that im not telling ppl "im carrying a laptop". im still (for the past 4 weeks) trying to get a csr to give me the dam accessories...

**EDIT: if you dont need any accessories and they give you a giftcard, i personally would try to purchase an extra year of warranty or something.

Currently using a North Face Surge to carry my laptop. I use the case that came with the m1530 and stuff them inside the laptop compartment in the bag. It's very tight and I know that the laptop is pretty safe. I usually carry one text book and a binder for notes. You can get it for around 70-80 on ebay or o2gearshop.com

yea the guy responded on email just saying that the accessories werent part of my order but hed be more than happy to help me buy them but i was like yea no i am not doing that. i wonder if calling would be a better bet? Other than the accessories missing the laptop seems fine. No dents or anything, i havent really put it to hard use yet to see how the video card is, im hoping since its new it has a better nvidia card in it if they really do exist, better as in a newer 8600 made differently of course, not a whole different card lol
