    Old m1730 xps question

    Hi guys i owned my m1730 with 8800m since new but have upgraded since and been left in the loft as i had no use for it
    Well yesterday i tried to turn it on to c if i can play around with it
    I can get upto the log in acreen
    I enter my password log in but screen goes black
    And sometimes after the windows logo but before log in it goes black
    Safe mode works fine tho
    Inhave upgraded drivers to latest one still same problem
    Using windows 7 and 10
    Im not sure if its the gpu as in getting to log in screen but not sure
    Any help guys?
    Was working fine before but not been used in like 2years
    Also changed cmos battery no change

    Did you use a fresh install of windows? If so, sounds like a video card problem. You could also have an overheating issue. Could be a number of things. Running in safe mode does not stress the video card since it's not running max resolution so I would look there first...

    Yes fresh install of windows 7 and windows 8
    If i go into safe mode i can disable the 8800 sli boot into windows
    Then when i install latest drivers whilst its installing it flickers and get a black screen ( i assume it re enables the gpu)
    Also in device manager theres a pci i think thats got an error? Like its not been installed but its detected
    Wifi works fine
    Theres no tv card
    Notnsure about the physicx card or what ever thats called

    Def. a video card gone south. See if you can find another one on ebay or something. That should do the trick.
