Sorry I wasn't sure where to post this. I just ordered an XPS M1530 to replace my almost-3-year-old Lenovo Thinkpad T60. I was wondering how big the improvement will be? Meaning, how big of a difference will I notice between things like startup, shutdown, opening folders and files, running programs such as autocad, solidworks, photoshop, etc...
Will it be night and day or will the difference be barely noticeable? I don't want to get my hopes too high, just curious..Couple of performance specs below. The main reason I upgraded was because my old T60 is running very poorly right now, especially with the programs I am required to use for my major. I've done as much as I can without actually reformatting. Just decided to go with a new one instead.
Old T60:
Windows XP SP3
Intel T2500 2.0GHz Core Duo
100GB 5400RPM SATA
1GB RAM
ATI X1400 128MB
soon-to-arrive XPS:
Windows Vista SP1 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800MHzFSB, 6M L2 Cache)
128GB Solid State Drive
4GB RAM
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

I imagine the XPS will break less ...
Going from a 5400RPM drive to a SSD will be much quicker. the core 2 is a lot faster than the 2.0 core duo processor.
I went from a T60 to Dell 1420 and 1520 and I noticed that I got much better battery life out of the 6 cell on my Dells than I ever did on my Thinkpad - I imagine you will have this too with the SSD. -
Just ran a stopwatch on my T60 startup time. I've cleared off as much as possible and gone through the optimization thread and done everything there. Took just over a minute.... -
Thats cool that yours got replaced. Everyone I know that had a T60 battery fail ... which is pretty much everyone with one ... essentially got told "screw you" by Lenovo and had to buy their own.

I would go for it but consider the option of upgrading to a SSD later to save some money, and use the current HD for a backup later.
Old to new---difference?
